This may be a really stupid question, but is there a simple way to connect to my desktop with ActiveSync WITHOUT actually syncing anything? I simply want to copy files back and forth during the day.

Forgive my ignorance and thanks for any help!

To be able to connect and not sync, open a/s and select the Tools menu, options command (first one). select the schedule (second) tab, and there select the third radio button, setting the synchronization to manuall. click ok to set the options and close the dialogs.

this will tell a/s to sync only when u select the File | Synchronize menu.

You could use something like this (http://www.cewindows.net/applications/undocumentedactivesync.htm) to force all Pocket PC's that connect with your computer to sync as Guest (it can be toggled on and off)...

Well...

The original question was is there a simple way to connect to my desktop with ActiveSync WITHOUT actually syncing anything? I simply want to copy files back and forth during the day.

So, the answer to that in this Wireless forum is...which I presume means a wireless connection of some sort...

To access/open network shares across a wired/wireless network...

Open File Explorer on the PocketPC and tap the right-most small icon at the bottom, ie. the one that looks like a hand holding trash can. Note that you can only cut-n-paste/copy files between the desktop and PPC.

Look at Netuse (FREE), Netrunner (FREE) or Resco File Explorer ($$$$) if you need to open files across the LAN from your PPC. Personally, I use Netuse on my 3835 and a D-Link DCF-650W wireless card...

Netuse pages...

The others...

This presumes you have network shares configured on your desktop(s) AND that you have network connectivity from the PocketPC.

ActiveSync is NOT involved in any way...
