Hello everyone!

I would like to know if I can get Pocket Frontpage and Pocket Publisher for Windows Mobile 2003 OS. I could really use the frontpage that was available when the Jornadas were the "thing"

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Justin.

I really cannot put into words how much I hate Front Page...

Friendly advice from me is to get a good text editor, check out http://www.w3c.org/Markup/ and http://www.w3c.org/Style/CSS/, then do everything from scratch. :)

I wanted to know whether or not I can get it for my ppc, you can start another thread to discuss how badly you hate Frontpage. I need it on my ppc for school work.

I don't believe you can get FrontPage for PPC.

Also, you say you "need" it.. why do you "need" it, if I may ask.

Some one asked the same question (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17644) earlier today.

IgtEditor (http://download.com.com/3000-2178-10194214.html?tag=lst-0-5) is what I use on my PPC. It is a freeware app that you can code on. It is very nice and has some time saving tools in it.

As far as I know, there are no ppc equivalents to frontpage or publisher.

You could investigate using terminal services to access them in a client/server method either at school or at home, if they are that critical.

I was searching for a wysiwyg html app a while back, and came up empty. There are text editors, as mentioned above, with some coding tools built in, but that's the closest I think you'll get at this time.

I think that it would be close to impossible to make a good web site with a WYSIWYG editor on a PPC. There is just not enough screen space. You would have to scroll all the time. Anyways I'm fine with a text editor on the ppc for quick things. As for desktop WYSIWYG I like Adobe GoLive.

Just out of curiosity - I don't use Pocket Word much - does it have the ability to open HTML files like its big brother on the desktop? I've never tried - figured someone who uses word might know.

As far as the frontpage debate goes, I'll admit that I've used FP since 1997, but not exclusively. I don't believe any decent web designer can rely on only one product. My arsenal includes FP, Dreamweaver, CodeCharge (Anyone use that product / know that product here?), Photoshop, and even notepad. FP is nice to quickly put* up a web page, and for allowing multiple designers to work on one project. The newest versions don't muck up your HTML as badly as the previous ones had. I absolutly don't recommend scratch HTML writing - some things (such as tables) are a nightmare to do by hand. I guess the point of my rant isn't to endorse full WYSIWYG or full HTML-by-Hand but to point out that most web designers take my approach and have a very full bag of tricks for whatever the situation calls for.

Back to the topic - Honda_Civic_Si - what do you plan on using Frontpage & Publisher on your handheld for? Perhaps other utilities could do similar. Honestly I can't see you creating publisher documents on the fly, so if all you need to do is view them, perhaps convert them to PDF for viewing on the go.

* initially I had "throw up a webpage" but then considered all the times I'd seen really HORRIBLE FP sites that look like something had vomitted them onto the internet, and changed my wording.

That is true. WYSIWYGs make table making a much faster job. As for CodeCharge what is that?

Codecharge is an awesome tool for rapidly generating database-driven websites. It hooks into a variety of backend databases and generates the code for you depending on what you want various pages to display (i.e. grids, records, search results, even user authentication). Its at www.codecharge.com.

Note Tab (http://www.notetab.com/) is the program I use to handcode (besides Notepad). It is nice and not expensive at all.

If you can believe it, I have designed all of my webpages in either word or excel using "save as webpage" (corpoarate website, 2 company intranet sites, and 2 personal sites, pie homepage).

They are decent beginner tools.

Obviously, they aren't very complex or flashy sites, but they work.

Ugg, how can you stand that? I hate the save as funtion. It does a bad job writing the code and it is a pain to modifiy is as well. They might as well take that funtion out.

Seriously, I am less than a beginner when it comes to coding html. Access and excel (vb) I am a late stage beginner. VCR's - starting to really get the hang of.

VCR? Those things are going out. DVD is the thing now.

Ok, just thinking...

1) Not all webpages designed in pure HTML look good.
2) Not all webpages designed in Excel/Word look bad.
3) Nobody besides web designers look at the HTML code of a page, so who cares how garbled MS makes it look from a internet user standpoint.

And I still own a VCR, just have it packed up in a box right now for when I plan on moving in 10 years....

Oh, and Dean - how much space does note tab take up? Sounds like a nice tool.

Note Tab is a real small program. Doesn't take up much space at all. They have 3 versions, a freeware one, a $5 one, and a $20 one. I have only used the freeware one but I am considering buying one of the full versions.
