If you got the time, post why you reset your iPAQ h5550

I usually soft-reset when I change batteries after heavy WiFi usage. My iPaq is very stable and I am happy with it

I'm averaging 1 or 2 soft resets a week with my 5555. I've never done a hard reset.

once a week sometimes, but I very very rarely need soft resets and i've never had a hard reset. Now my 5455 now that's a different story...........

I wish the poll was structured differently. There is no option for 'spontaneous hard reset'. Thats what I went through 2X and it's not fun. I actually have to soft reset very seldom (maybe a few X a week). It is not soft resets that bother me but the hard resets.

The iPAQ h5555 Pocket PC 2003 is the most unstable platform I've used since Windows 3.1. My Sony Clie NZ90 is so much more reliable that I use it exclusively for business purposes and the iPAQ solely for audio books, Mapopolis, surfing the Internet and SpamFilter to clean up spam prior to downloading quality emails via my NZ90.

I've already had the following happen with this piece of s**t

1/ Spontaneous hard resets have happened on 4 separate occasions
2/ Will not power off (power light stays on and drains battery)
3/ Must do a soft reset to simply turn the unit on & off
4/ Painfully excruciating slow performance
5/ Password use is unreliable as with 4 pin and/or fingerprint have had to reset the unit dozens of times prior to the unit finally allowing me to use the password to access the unit. Has happened so many times I thought it was something I did so I manually hard reset the unit, installed my limited apps from scratch and dealt with the crap again. So it wasn't me or the software (I only have installed WisBar Advance, Pocket TV, SpamFilter, Mapopolis, Resco File Explorer, NetFront Browser, and of course the standard ROM apps). Finally disabled the password feature and don't have that problem now. Defeats the reason why I wanted this feature though.
6/ The unit runs quick after a reset but quickly slows to mollasses as I run various apps. And I NEVER use smart minimize I ALWAYS shut down the running apps via WisBar Advance to eliminate drain on the OS. No dice still runs slow real quick.
7/ If it wasn't for my core use of the unit, ie, Mapopolis, Books on Tape (MP3), SpamFilter & Internet Surfing I would have returned the iPAQ quickly after purchasing.

So what are your thoughts on the overall experience of the iPAQ. I compare directly to the Palm OS which I use specifically for business and it's speed, reliability and stability. So there you have it. Let's not begin another MAC/Windows war discuss upon the pros and cons of the OS and real life experiences.

Your iPaq must have a hardware problem....
The H5555/0 is very stable. 99% of the users are very happy. I have forgotten what a soft-reset is. Please do not think that because your iPaq has serious issues, that all other iPaqs are the same....

So what are your thoughts on the overall experience of the iPAQ.
I'm very happy with my 5555. This is my 5th iPAQ (3765, 3835, 3955, and 5455 before this one), and the 3835 was the only one that ever disappointed me. I ended up returning that one under BestBuy's extended warranty, because of the power on/backlight problem.

:lol: Sounds like the guy above definately has a hardware problem. The unit I have is extremely stable. I've had to soft reset it a couple of times, but usually when I'm playing around with a software ap that doesn't work right or something like that. I've never had to reset the device unless I was doing something stupid.

Since I support them at work, I have no trouble convincing my wife that I have to keep up with the latest and greatest, every 8-9 months. While others on this board are asking for advice on how to convince the spouse to let them upgrade, I just say "but honey, it's my job".

I work in IT as well and I do the same with my wife. Sometimes I can convince my boss to buy it for me. (even better). Working in IT has it's advantages at times. :wink:

Judging by the options offered in the poll, it seems someone is assuming that all 55xx users are soft resetting their device at least once a day.

I certainly don't *need* to reset that often. And from some of the other responses, it seems others fall into a "< once a day" category as well. IF that's the case, then the poll needs to be re-structured.

Contrary to one responder's experience, my 5555 has been *very* stable. I rarely reset with the exception of new app installation. Whether the vendor says it should be done or not, I routinely reset after installing any new app.

Now, the 5455 I had before this one did require more frequent resets.

I reboot a lot... probably on average, about 4 times a day, although I've easily rebooted double that, so I answered 6+. However, I'm not rebooting because my iPAQ is locking up. In fact, thankfully, my 5555 is solid as a rock, especially compared to my 5455.

No, the reason I'm a rebootaholic is because I have to reboot everytime I change screen resolutions using NYDITOT. I use my 5555 a lot for internet surfing, where I like landscape, sometimes at 320x240, and sometimes at 640x480 (depending on what I'm doing), but most programs won't support these resolutions, so I boot back to 240x320 for normal use.

My 5555 rarely ever needs a soft reset- never needed a hard reset, or any spontaneous resets, hard or soft. Other than a quick WIFI problem (wouldn't connect to home's wlan) which was solved with some talking to people here, and a removal of the existing wlan settings.

I've been extremely happy so far. I wish it has the consumer IR though, could've used that. Back to the subject though, I've reset the 5555 about 10 times in about a month and a half.

My 5550 has become indispensible in the month I have had it - links with my Sony-Ericcson T610 like they have been friends for life and only lets me down when I try some downloaded software on it.

Everyone should have one.

I have not used my Laptop since I got it....

Now all I need is a way to link with a projector for powerpoint presentations --????

Here's a couple potential solutions.....

Do the presentation directly from the PPC. The only problem....and I believe it applies to both......is they are CF based solutions. So, you'd have to add an expansion pack to the 55xx.
