OK, I've got this weird bug going on with the above.

Media player in the background and the action button (centrre d-pad) has toggle screen on/off mapped to it.
That's fine until it comes to using word completion in any app - tapping a word turns the damn screen off instead of entering the word. 8O :!:

To check if this is something unique to my setup or a proper bug, can someone else check if this happens to them, too.

It is amazing that you should post this!! 8O This morning I was creating playlists in WMPlayer and when I tried to press the autocomplete word that popped up on the screen my screen shut off too. I also have windows media player screen toggle mapped to the center button. I did not put too much thought to it but now that I hear that it is happening in other programs also it does concern me! By the way, I have a 5555 so I wonder if this is a 2003 issue? :?

Nice coincidence

If it's happened for you in a different program on a different model, I guess that narrows it down to a WM2003 issue. It's just odd that everything is fine apart from tapping word completion. I guess it does more behind the scenes than just dump a few more characters to the screen. Don't see why.

I'll let HP & MS know, but I doubt I'll get a resonse.

I would guess its the way the auto complete interprets the screen tap as a "dpad_action" button press rather than a command all of its own, which means that WMP interprets it as the dpad action and switches the screen off.

That's probably what's happening, but I just don't see why they set it up that way. I tried the same thing on a friend's PPC2002 unit this morning and it doesn't happen there. Not a clue why they changed this behaviour since the last version.

Anyway, I notified HP this morning, so if someone reads it and it miraculously makes it's way to the proper people, it may even make it into a rom update 6 or 7 years down the line.
