New Version of PocketMVP (legitimate one this time)

I don't know if everyone noticed or not, there is a new version of PocketMVP over at Marc Dukette's site: http://home.adelphia.net/~mdukette/downloads.html

This is a new version from the original writer of the app, not from the German guy who hijacked the code. Marc has kept a low profile all summer but seems to be back and doing his usual good stuff.

Anyone using WM2003 and wanting to get good movies and music on their PPC should think about getting it It is said to work better on PPC2002 than the previous version as well.

I tried that URL and got a 404 "page not found" message. Are you sure the URL is correct?

Yes, I downloaded the version of PocketMVP for WM 2003 that came out a few weeks ago, and had a lot of problems, freeze-ups, etc., so I went back to WM9, which is at least fairly reliable. (Someone mentioned in another thread Winampaq. I had problems when I tried that also, on my IPAQ 2210.)

I remember that the previous version was from a URL in Germany (suffix .de). What is the story about the "guy hijacked the code"? Was that version not made by the program's creator, and did he not approve of it? Has he (the creator) sued the German guy? What's the scoop?

Well, now I was finally able to access the site. (I wrote before how I got a 404 message.) But I don't see any mention of a new version, nor any mention of WM 2003 or PPC 2003. Also, at the bottom of the page is a message:

Now--if that web page has not been updated since August 2002, over a year ago, how could there be a link on it to a "new version", or a version for WM 2003. an OS which didn't exist in Aug. 2002.

Please explain. Where did you read about a "new version"? Which of the versions on the page: http://home.adelphia.net/~mdukette/downloads.html ia the new one, for WM 2003?

The guy just hasn't bothered updating his site; especially that "last updated" date at the bottom. When you visit the site, pay attention to the first bit of text you see (in this case PocketMVP .8.082303). This will tell you the most recent version. He really does need to add dates, but I believe this version is only about 3-6 weeks old.

Check out the Alpha Release Notes (http://home.adelphia.net/~mdukette/release.html)section for the changes since the last version, it notes compabability with 2003.
