I've had this beauty for about 3 weeks ago, but now I'm not able to connect to my WLan at home or at hotspots throughout the city. The only thing I can think has changed is that under "Configure Network Adapters" the selection is on WORK and not THE INTERNET. And no matter how many times I choose THE INTERNET, it goes back to WORK. Any suggestions, or any way to get the default setting back? Would I need to do a hard reset? TIA :)

The 5000's are full of WLAN weirdness, notorious for it.
Few questions - do you have 2002 or 2003, if 2002 have you updated to the latest ROM, if either have you applied the WLAN firmware patch? Look up any patches on HP's site.
I couldn't get the WLAN to work for love nor money until a few days ago, now it works sweet. I had to take the battery out before the WLAN firmware would update - and to get the light blinking for wifi...weird. Activesync over wifi is great - really quick.
Was it working originally?
I think the settings for WLAN should be WORK, WORK, WORK. Internet passthru should work fine.

The 5555 came with PPC 2003. And it did work originally. No patches or firmware has been applied. It stopped working about 5-6 days ago. No real reason, wasn't using new software, nothing different. The wifi light has always worked. And when connected to my network, it blinks green and says connected, but Internet Explorer still can't find the connection. I haven't been able to connect to home since. :(

Have you tried running welcome in your windows folder on the 5555?
This may solve your problem.

I'm using wi-fi on my 3835 at home and "talk" to a LinkSys BEFSW411 (802.11b) with 128-bit WEP encryption. I have occasionaly had a "glitch" where I've had to re-enter my WEP key. Sometimes on the iPAQ and other times on the LinkSys. Once I've done that everything starts working again. Never have found a pattern as to why it happens, but this "fix" always seems to do the trick.

Mulekiller, You are not alone with your problem with WIFI.
For 3 days, I have been unable to connect to my D-Link DI 614+ wireless network router. Until then worked like a charm. This is true before I updated the ROM as well as following the upgrade.
The router configuation seems to be normal. It shows a MAC address for the wireless device.
The wirelss icon at the top of the screen has the left and right pointing arrows with an x underneath them.
Under asset viewer, the MAC address is either blank or has all 0's . Anyone know how to populate the MAC address when the device can not reach out and touch the AP?
No connections...
:?
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I succeeded in getting my wlan working at home again. I restarted the router and modem, removed the settings from my home wlan under settings, and let the antenna signal pop up showing which wlans were available and if they were work or the internet. I chose the home wlan and then had to enter my wep key and then voila. Using the work/work/work setting seems to work. (No pun intended) I haven't used the upgrade rom yet. Hope this helps.

I had to remove the battery for a few minutes before I could update my WLAN firmware and also, before I did that, the green LED would not blink. The update kept giving an error....popped the battery out and voila.
Popping the battery out, and also unplugging your power brick also apparently helps with cradle charging issues. Something to do with surge protection circuitry in the brick.

After, searching the HP Tech Support website, and a frustrating two hours of trying to understand what it was talking about, I did a search here, at Pocket PC Thoughts, and found this thread.
The battery removal recommendation did the trick!
Thanks!

This also worked for me!! THANKS! It's great to have a site where I can spend 10 minutes searching and get a solution instead of spending HOURS trying to figure it out!!! :)
Me and my boss thank you... :)
