I would be nice if it would work for other ppc.

Yes, but this is one way OEMs try to keep competative advantages over other OEMs on the market. When you buy a Pocket PC, you have to think about what other accessories the OEM offers in the long term...

Does anyone know for a fact it WON'T work in Toshibas or others? I believe it would only take a proper driver to make it work. I know the Toshiba SDIO slot is different than HPs but I have to think a driver could make it work.

Oh where oh where has the little flash gone,
Oh where oh where could it be.

I agree, without a flash the usability is diminished greatly.

Gee, the next thing you'll guys want is the camera to use all 1.3 megapixels!

I've never seen an adequate 1.3mp camera addon for the PocketPC. I don't even care about flash--I just want the pics not to look like crayon drawings. We'll see how this one does.

I'm still bummed that my iPAQ CF card camera plug-in (or whatever it was called!) hasn't been supported with drivers for the newer units... Makes me question the lifespan of any HP add-on such as these.

Palm Zire 71 has built-in camera which is useable. I was in office depot the other day and was really surprised - hi sis first built-in camera i could see being useful. Seems like Palm is catching up.

Well, instead you could try the Spectec SD camera, its not 1,3 Mpix (if you need 1,3 pix or more buy a freakin camera) but it definitly works on all PPC's (palm too).

It's smaller too, what is that silly bulky thing next to the lens on the HP anyway?

check it @ http://www.spectec.com.tw/en/camera.htm

I know, this thread is long-gone now... but to answer; that "silly bulky thing" next to the lens box is what makes it possible for the lens to flip over the top about 180°. The SpecTec unit seems to offer horizontal rotation, which is an interesting, if strange option. Ever try to aim a camera accurately when looking sideways at the viewfinder? It's a disorienting experience. The over-the-top filp lens is great for being able to look down at the screen while shooting forward, or for any number of angles where keeping the lens straight forward or straight back is very awkward. I'd not want to lose that functionality, so this camera is not attractive to me. It probably is to other users, with different styles of shooting...

And now there is the Veo SD 1.3mp camera, which will work on any PDA. And probably the same camera underneath the badging!

I guess, I cannot use my SD memory card when using this camera... right?

Not unless you have a 2 SD-slot device or a dual-slot device and a SD-to-CF adapter.
