After I traded "down" from an iPaq 3630 in Summer 2000 for a Jornada 548, I felt like the coolest guy in the world. The 548 has that effect. After a time, I sold it, ostensibly because the screen was like tissue paper and kept on getting scratched, but I admit it was also because I was enchanted by the thought of a Jornada 720. Gadget-lust killed my wallet.

Now I want it back. But it still goes on eBay for more money than I can afford right now. $100-$120. Pity. And to think that my first year of college I bought an $850 HPC.

Yeh it is a funny thing about the 54x series Jornada's. I love my 568 but sometimes I still think fondly of my old 545 - loved that cool (in both senses!) black metal shell.

I have also been looking longingly at ebay waiting for the time that they get cheap enough to pick one up for nostalgias sake if nothing else.

I hadn't really thought about this until I saw this post. I miss that cool metal shell too. I even liked the flat stylus.

I hope someone at HP gets wind of this. The coolest thing about the 540 series was the cover.

I traded "up" to an iPAQ 5455. I'd swap the USELESS fingerprint reader and thusfar POINTLESS bluetooth feature for that cool cover and a larger USABLE joybutton.

One more thing, the volume rocker button seemed like a good idea, but I wish I could reprogram it to operate like the navigation rocker button on the older Pocket PCs.

I don't miss the oddball Type I CF slot on the the Jornada though.

Ah, yes...

I can't add any more except to say: "I said my goodbye's here" (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16369)...

The CF slot being Type I was a non issue. The first couple of months I had it, I bought myself a CF Pocket Type I to Type II converter (http://www.atek.com/CF_pocket.htm)***...

***What a shame, looks like they are allowing that product to die (the pics don't load any more)...

Sorry for asking a (stupid) question... But... is it possible to use the 548 metal cover on the 568?

Or... are there any metal covers available for the 568?

I am afraid the answer is probably no in both cases - although I would love to be corrected.

I am not sure if any of the case manufactures make a metal case that will fit the 568. Myself, I had wondered whether the Pocket Solutions Axim "cover up" metal cover might be modified to fit the Jornada - but the dimensions are too different.
