Pocket PCs have already stormed our every day lives and seriously increased the convenience factor. So many things you can do with them. And there will be much more to come. PPCs have already replaced my wallet, almost. I keep all the pictures of my family on it, no more business cards, or franklin planners to keep track of my day. And I don't use my Gameboy Advance anymore.
What kind of apps would you like to see in the near future?
Me? Being able to beam my checking card information to the cash register at the checkout line of the grocery store... or credit card at the department store/mall. Interacting with my vehicle's computer. So many more....

There are several threads that touch on your topic. Check out:
The Missing Application? (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16178) where people suggested some interesting and creative apps.
What game would you like to see on Pocket PC? (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15877) has posts on games people would like to see ported over to PPC.
What Does the Future Hold for Your PDA? (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16826) talks about hopes for the future usabiity of the PPC and the convergence with the cell phone.
Interacting with my vehicle's computer. So many more....
There are programs that do this... if you have a Palm.

I'd really like to see some aggresive advertising for PDAs (Pocket PCs or Palms!). Once we get these devices to the masses, they'll demand the apps that we're missing right now.

I agree with David. If we had a media blitz, then maybe more users would jump on board, and app development would blossom.
Did I just say "blossom"? Oh, crap. I did.
I need some sleep...
