Hi All
Anyone know why I DIDN'T get the software that allows the iPAQ 5550 to act as a remote control?
I rang HP in the UK...and they weren't sure
..they said it MIGHT be because the 5550 'works differently' to other iPAQS
..does that sound right?
If it does work with th 5550..anyone know where i can download it?

The iPAQ 5555's (5500 series) do not have Consumer IR so it can't be used as a remote control. That's why there is no software for it.

Well, it could be used as a remote, like my 3835 could be used as a remote... but in the real world it just didn't cut it. You have to get so close to whatever you're trying to control that it defeats the purpose of a remote.
Now the 2215, sweet!

My 5555 was actually touching the IR screen on my TV and it still wouldn't work. I'll just have to keep using the 3835 as backup/remote.

You can actually get TOO close to what you're trying to control that it won't work. Try a distance of at least 3"-5" between sender/reciever.
