I saw a 55 series Ipaq last night in Dixons, priced at £512 :jawdrop:
At least it's finally here. I asked to have a look, but the battery was dead! :(
Anyone know of a cheaper source in the U.K?:onfire:

PC World in Norwich had them Wednesday afternoon - they were in the cabinet next to the 2210 that I bought. Not on display so I couldn't have a look.

I didn't see them in PC World at Thurrock the day before... but I wasn't really looking.

Thanks Everyone. Looks like I might be taking a trip to the States!

Thanks Everyone. Looks like I might be taking a trip to the States!Hmmm. Bestbuy have the 5555 for $650. Add on the state tax (say, ooh I dunno, 8%) gets it up to $702. That's about £440.

So you'd be better off getting a cheaper flight to somewhere in the UK and buying it at the airport for £442. That way you don't have to either a) pay the duty and VAT when you bring it back in to the UK or b) twitch nervously at the sound of the rubber gloves when they discover you trying to smuggle it into the UK. And you might find that HP-UK will suggest you send it back to the US to get it fixed when it goes wrong.

8O ?? Rubber Gloves - definitely not good  ! Also, I wonder if there is any difference in the software bundle between here and the states. One of my friends bought a 3970 via the net last year, and it turned up with a load of unexpected software, and some extra cables (car charger, etc.). Apparently it was an Asian spec machine.

Total PDA have them for £399 ex VAT, which if my maths is right, comes to about £470. Not too bad, since I'm not likely to be flying anywhere soon. :)

Great Price!

Go for it you won't be disapointed with the H5550!

I had a hard haggle at Dixons for my 5550 and was looking at a £50 discount off their extended warranty (£125 down to £75).

I ended up in Tottenham Court Road late on a Saturday afternoon with cash and got one for £465. They wanted silly money for the folding keyboard (£110).

So go and have a look at www.expansys.com for the extras - their bundles for cables etc are pretty good.

My mobile link up is a Sony Ericcson T610 - this phone sits with the 5550 much better than my Nokia 6310i - which is surprising.

Well, my Ipaq 5550 has arrived! :D :)

So far, I'm well happy with it, except for 2 things:

1, sometimes when you try to move the slider with the stylus, it thinks you're trying to write on the screen! Anyone else come across this problem?

2, the sound is really, really scratchy & crackly in any program, not just windows media (which I posted on a few minutes ago). I've tried recording a message as well, with no backround noise, and it sounds like i recorded it in a fireworks factory! Is this normal for these machines? If not, I'll return it for a replacement.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
