I just went to Best buy yesterday to peek around on the Ipaq 5550 as opposed to my 5450 and I was quite glad I did not upgrade. It is just as slow if not more so than the one I alreay have. At first I though.. Nah there must just be some apps in the backround. Then I cleared the memory and Poof still slow as a dog. I finally got the Best buy guy to let me reset it and still slow as hell. Are all the flagship models slow like this :?: The 1945 and the 2215 are blazing. Why is the OS[on this model] so slow. [NOTE: not talking about program performance - actual OS speed]

The programs work fine but it annoys the hell out of me to wait for the start menu to load, even if it is only 1 or 2 seconds, and another couple for the control panel. The best buy guy said that it wasn't just the display and that a lot of people were kinda pissed that they were so sluggish. Especially when people pay that much!!

I am a little bit confused. I know I am new to the world of PPC but my new h5550 is very fast, in fact I was surprised how fast it is.

This could be because I am new but I love the H5550 and am very pleased with the speed. I hope I am not the only one that feels like this.
Sorry to hear that you didnt like the new Ipaq.

RegKing2003 nicely fixes the menu animation garbage as well as host of other annyoing things, add to it Pocket Plus 1.3 and finally I can say that my 2K3 54xx is as sweet as it can be, hell even alarms work again, what more could a guy ask for.

The following review clearly shows the differences in speed and performance.

If you re-read my post you notice that I am not talking about app performance and such. Benchmarks are nice ways to say "mine is faster than yours" but unfortunately real world performance like [tap start... wait...tap settings... wait.....] I agree that it is faster than the previous models in many things but the actual interface is very sluggish when compared to say an Ipaq 39xx or a 22xx, heck even when compared to a 19xx. I don't know why but every singe 5xxx I have used is sluggish like this. Again, Movies [great], Music [Great], NOT talking about Appz and such. Actual UI speed is what I am unhappy about.

get rid of menu animation and the useless sounds like screen taps - that should help you a bit.

I own an H5555 for a month now and believe that it is very fast. I used to own an H3970 (upgraded to WM2003) and it was very fast too. I couldn't see any difference in terms of speed and/or responsiveness...
There are some times when the 5555 gets a little slow, but that happens rarely. All in all, I would say that it is a very fast Pocket PC, but the speed improvement comes solely from the Operating System and not from HP...
