Nifty! I :ppclove: wireless anything.

What I really want is wireless power transfer. No more cable dangling aorund in the house.

Power transfer? Do you mean a network running over the power lines in your home? I've heard that that's a really unstable network, but I can't remember the specifics.

There's a bit article about a guy saying how good powerline networks are, just in case anyone wants to take a look.

I think instead Maximus meant he wanted to be able to stay connected to power without using wires. So your laptop battery can charge w/o plugging it into the wall....

I think Nicola Tesla tried it, but could never get it to work...

The closest thing we have is is that panel that you could place your gadget on to charge it (what the heck was the name of that???)

Oh, I get it. I didn't know something like that was really possible. The only thing I could think of is somehow converting radio waves (or any other kind of waves) into electrical power, but I don't know if that kind of energy transforming is possible....

Well, you can always do it using microwaves -- after all, the sun is more-or-less wireless power, right? But, at the quantities you need, you'll probably go sterile best-case, and worst-case you'll be melted into a little biological puddle. Nikola was trying to do one better.

Someone (http://www.kurasc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/top/shokai/space/sps-e.html) is actually researching how to make it practical. I'm sure they're not the only one... but it's not an easy problem.

That thing is awsome! I want that.

Since both Steve and Kati went off-topic on wireless power, I moved the posts here . Tsk tsk.

Guilty as charged...

Yeah, but then you have to MobileWise-enable all your devices, which requires the installation of a chip. Smells proprietary to me.

And just wait until someone who had an ID chip installed in their wrist rests their hand in the mat. Bzzzt!

When I moved to my present house (which is now empty, because I am being assigned wherever my supervisor wants me to), the biggest pain was to take care the power distribution. Apparently the previous owner of the house really likes cables, so cables are everywhere, between rooms, between rooms and the garden, rooms and the basement, etc.

Took me a week to get the rewiring permit from the citi government, 2 weeks (and 3 person labor) to fix the whole wiring thing. And of course it took a month of salary. That was a real pain.

This isn't a new concept. I remember an episode of The Avengers where a guy was using what was called "broadcast power". He would drive a blue panel truck with the transmitter around to where his victim was, then walk up and touch him with a metal finger cover. It was a cool episode.

I wish I can do that to the real estate agents down here. Zap 'm down. :devilboy: This is the only place I know where real estate agents are actually trying to do bad things to their customer.

This would be really cool if they had some kind of adapter you could attach to devices. I wouldn't mind a small device plugged into the back of my laptop or PDA/cellphone. I mean, how big does it need to be?

They were talkng about adding a chip to devices to get it to work, so I would think the adapter required would only be a tiny little thing. If I could get small plugs with these chips for my devices, I'd be all over this.

Same here that would be great.

That will definitely solve the power problem of high drain device such as digital cameras. No more charging those AA batteries every 100 shots.
