View Full Version : MultiIE update
I like the MultiIE browser. Nothing on their website talks about
a PPC 2003 update and It will load on my h2215 but not
execute. Anyone have any news?
Thanks

I agree, I tried for months to get them to answer my emails about one of their products...
I finally gave up, uninstalled the software, and never looked back...

Update: Remember also, the last time the site was updated was 24 October 2002...

So far no reply :really mad:
I need an alternative application supporting WM2003. Pocket plus seems to be nice, any other suggestions?

I found a nice piece of freeware that replaces PIE and MultiIE.

I've been using it for a while. Very stable and pretty fast. No prolem on my PPC2003 device.

I tried a couple of times to get a hold of the Multiie guy. No answer.
I moved to spb pocket plus.
I also asked spb if they would be implementing "open in a new window" and "save as" for images, and they replied that those features would be implemented in future versions.
I also asked about a feature to add "history" to the back button, so you could jump over pages/ go back 2 or 3 pages with a dropdown menu or something. They replied that this is impossible with pie. I wonder if it is possible. I would try it myself, but I am completely lost when it comes to programming. Couldn't you just copy the address bar contents to a register? Then call them up when the button is pushed, then write a selection back to the address bar, then activate the link? Maybe you would need to add a button or something (not use the standard pie back button) but is this possible? (EDIT: pie does seem to remember pages, otherwise how could you step back a page at a time, you just need access to where it stores that list, right?)
Anyway, I am still happy enough with pocket plus, that I quit looking for an alternative, and it adds enough other functionality to make it well worth the $10.

That ftxPBrowser is what I used even with the new 2003. It works great and free too.

Interesting. Some people seem to be using ftxPBrowser sucessfully on WM2003. Myself and others with Dell PPCs report problems, like the multiple, tabbed pages and open in new window tap-and-hold not working (full screen works, and that's helpful).
FYI, MultiIE web page has been updated. It says new version 3.0 is coming in October 2003. But with a history of poor support/response, maybe it's not the one to look forward to.
But as for me, I have money waiting for the first person that can deliver successful multiwindow IE (not multiple instances of PIE, as in PocketPlus) on my WM 2003 Pocket PC (and I don't pay for much). I got spoiled with ftxpbrowser on PPC2002.

I think the multiIE support team is busy working, and has not had time to reply to everyone. I am guessing that the info on their website is correct, and 3.0 will be out soon.
As far as ftx browser, I could never get it to work properly on my 2215.
After using pocket plus awhile, there are definitely limitations to it. Not as full featured (in terms of PIE) as I would like. The today screen, alarms and database fix still make it a keeper.

That's pretty crazy that they simply answered that it's "impossible with PIE". I wrote a file explorer app for myself and implemented a history feature in pretty much the same way you described: just copying the address to a stack and then steping through it when needed. I have no clue why they don't just do that.

Mike,
I thought they were nuts too. Like I said, I don't know much about programming, but the method I described seemed relatively simple to me.
I guess its time to finish reading "Teach yourself C++ in 10 Minutes" (without taking a nap in 8 minutes).

Version 3.0, for "all versions" of OS, is available now.
Couldn't wait to give it a try. It seems a bit slow and clunky; then again it adds a lot of features. I had been used to ftxPBrowser on PPC2002, which was a lighter weight app, and that was much snappier.
I had some problems. Multiple windows didn't work. I had a couple lockups. Turns out I had a expired demo of spb PocketPlus. Not surprising if that was the problem, as both apps are tying into PIE. When I uninstalled that and reinstalled MultiIE, things seems to work, probably as designed.

I had a feeling it would be out soon.
This app definitely rocks. I glad it is now wm2003 compatible, I've missed it since I got my 2215 (except for the last couple weeks of beta testing - yay!)

NetFront still has 2 main advantages over MultiIE, in my opinion. First, Ne,tFront loads pages substantially faster than MultiIE which I guess is based on PIE.
Second, NetFront allows the wrapping of a page to make sure it is readable on the PPC screen. This feature works wonderfully when reading forums or web pages not optimized for PPCs or web pages that either don't have Printable Page versions or whose Printable page versions still doen't allow the page to fit on the screen. With this option, you don't have to scroll left and right to read these pages.
In addition, NetFront has all the features the new MultiIE has, such as open in new window, etc. My only gripe is that when you open saved favorites/bookmarks, it open in reverse alphabetical order, Z to A from top to bottom. Other than than, it is a very good program. Hopefully
the new version will be even better.
It's not cheap and the tech support policies are not very good - only good for 3 months after purchase, but the product is great.
