1. I often got this error message when I entered the PPCT's homepage, I used to think that it is a minor glitch, but lately it occured quite often ..

Warning: fsockopen(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known (is your IPV6 configuration correct? If this error happens all the time, try reconfiguring PHP using --disable-ipv6 option to configure) in /var/www/pocketpcthoughts/_code/classes/xml-rpc.class.php on line 357

Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to sponsors.thoughtsmedia.com:80 in /var/www/pocketpcthoughts/_code/classes/xml-rpc.class.php on line 357

2. I have this habit to right click - open in new windows, sometimes I can have 10 posts open on my screen. After hitting the 'submit' button, sometimes I was asked to reenter my login and password, the bad thing is, all the stuffs that I typed are gone. So I have to retype again. Clicking 'back' button does not help, since the cache is flushed already.

3. On 8 AM, I clicked 'new posts'. When moving between pages of the new posts, I often get this error message of 'post not found' ... when I clicked 'new posts' again on 8.20 AM, only the new posts since 8 AM is displayed. Everything before 8 AM is gone, yeah, the script must have think that I no longer want to see the posts posted before 8 AM anymore. Is there a way to see 'all new posts since 7 PM' etc. ?

I've gotten all of those before as well. It started happening for me about 3 months ago. But for the past month or so, I've never had any problems.

That's very strange - I never see that. Sometimes we have php glitches like that when we're updating the code, but then EVERYONE sees it - and that hasn't happened for weeks. Since it's talking about IPV6, I have to wonder if it's something on your end. Does it happen on every computer? Or just one?

Sounds like cookie corruption. Shut down all instances of IE. Go into the control panel > Internet options, then open up the cookie folder (VIEW FILES I think). Find the pocketpcthoughts.com cookie, and delete it. Open up IE again, go back to PPCT, then log in - it will drop a fresh cookie.

The New Posts feature is really messed up in phpBB - it's not a per post tracking cookie, it's a site-wide cookie. I hate it, but there's nothing we can do about it until the phpBB people decide to implement a better system. :|

What if they have fixed it? You're still running phpBB 2.0.4, but the most recent version is phpBB 2.0.6: http://www.phpbb.com/news.php?id=18

No need to be rude about it. I didn't know 2.06 was out - 2.05 was the newest as of a few weeks ago, and it didn't address anything that was problematic. I'll look into what 2.06 does, and if it's worth the upgrade hassles (there are always a few), we'll certainly do it.

Just for the record, Jason, I've seen that error one time this week, as well. Viewing the site with IE6 under WinXP Pro SP1. I've only seen it one time, but it was -- as far as I can remember -- the exact same error that Maximus reported.

Ditto here, last night on a dial up road trip. Exact same 7 pm CDT 8.13.03, using MSN dial up in Madison, WI. Looked kinda wierd, but thought it was my setup

I saw that happened on two computers. Both on win2K, IE5.0.

another one.

When clicking on 'new posts' I got XX new posts, divided into 5 pages.
Reading (and replying) through the first few pages is usually fine, but when going into the latter pages (page 4 or 5), I usually got this message

No topics or posts met your search criteria.

Same problem with the mentioned above ?

That could be the "hidden" posts. Some of the front-page posts are written in advance, but hidden until a specific time. They are counted in the xx new posts, but will not appear to you in the list. I don't remember if this issue was "fixed" or not in a recent version.

Yeah, that's phpBB's crappy cookie-based system. There's no fix until they fix it. I gave up on using "New Posts" over a year ago...

Actually, I haven't seen this happen since the Subscriber services were rolled out. My New Posts pages never have any "phantom pages."

Then like Jason says, it must be the broken "New Posts" functionality.

It works for me, btw. I'm using Mozilla. Seems like those using Mozilla have had fewer "New Posts" problems than those with IE.

One other thing: pages "disappear" at times because new posts keep on appearing. What I do is to use a tabbed browser, and quickly open up all 5 pages, and keep them open as I open new tabs for threads. (You could also use multiple windows.) That seems to work much better for me.

I have the same symptom, but different cause - my dial up conection dies and then when I dial back in the "new post since last visit" displays 0 (or very few) new messages.

As an idea - this query must be based on a date/time - couldn't a new search method be implemented whereby the user gives the time and date to display new messages from. I have been wanting this for a while.

And while I'm posting new ideas - how about a forum dedicated to PPCT site chatting - rather than the PPC Chat forum.

You mean, having phpBB's search function support this. We're working on that. :)

I was going to have a discussion with the team about "technical support", but then the lights went out. I wonder if that was a message.

Wow! It looks like we're now runnin 2.0.6! 8O I would have thought there would be a bit more fanfare about taking the site down, upgrading the forums, etc... but it appears to have been seamless! Good job! 8) BTW - did the new version fix the problems? :?

Good idea. I logged this morning, and found 240 new posts added. 12 pages of internet explorers are opened immediately :D Gosh, now I have to spend 2 hours reading them all. And I am only away for 3 days. :D

Right. I guess the disappearing new posts was to save you from not getting any work done in the day...

2.06 seemed to be mostly a security fix, so we didn't make a big deal out of it. If it fixes a few things, even better. phpBB 2.2 will add the new features we're waiting for....

My thought exactly. If all the posts were there, I might have to spend 4 hours :p Is it just me, or this place is getting really really popular ? :D

Unfortunately, the phpBB group won't commit themselves to a specific date to launch :( , but you can use the test board here: :D

It shouldn't be doing anything special. :? I think it runs a backup at 4am Mountain Time, but that can be run while the system is up.
