I can't seem to send out emails from my IPAQ. But I can receive.
When I try to reply or send a new email, I get:

'Your message was not sent and has been moved to the Drafts folder'
The following recipients are invalid:

I know the email addresses I use to test are correct.
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Here are the settings my internet provider gave me:
POP3: pop.west.cox.net
SMTP: smtp.west.cox.net

I went to edit my account settings and they all seem in order. email address, username, Password, account info, incoming mail, outgoing mail

Any advise will help! Thanks.

Does your SMTP server required authentication? You might need to turn that on in the advanced settings.

It sorta worked. I was able to send an email to my normal email account. My internet provider is Cox. ([email protected])
I received it through my ipaq fine. No errors.

Now when I sent a test to another account, ie. yahoo.com email or my work, it comes back with the same message... 'moved to draft, was not sent.. recipients are invalid'. I turned on the authentication settings too. So I'm half way there.

I called HP tech support and the guy thinks my SMTP settings might be wrong that I should call my internet provider. I told him I did that and it's not wrong. I told him maybe it's how I have it set up, and he didn't walk me through it. He said I should try putting the SMTP that's on my bluetooth phone instead!

Here's what I have:
My internet provider settings:
POP3: pop.west.cox.net
SMTP: smtp.west.cox.net

My T-Mobile settings on my phone: (I can receive and send fine via cell)
POP3: myemail.t-mobile.com
SMTP: myemail.t-mobile.com

My question is, which SMTP do I use on my IPAQ? My guess would be the smtp.west.cox.net

The next step I did is an option. I selected it anyway as follows:
When I go to the accounts options and go to the address tab, it says:
"In Contacts, get addresses from": (I selected) 'All email fields'

Then below it says: "Many mail servers can verify names with an online address book. Tap the service you want to use." I selected: Cox email.

I tap it and then it asks for the directory name and server. Which server should I use? POP3 or SMTP?

Then I checked 'Authentication is necessary on this server.. I entered my username and password and checked 'Check name against this server'.

Any suggestions? Thanks again.

How is your carrier that you use to connect your iPAQ to the internet and how are you doing it (cell phone, modem etc..)?

If your carrier is T-Mobile their SMTP will work just fine.

I'm going through T-Mobile with their $9.99 unlimited T-zones.
I use my bluetooth phone to pair up with my IPAQ.
My settings on my IPAQ seem ok as far as connecting to the internet. I can surf pretty good.

I just didn't know if I'm using the wrong SMTP. Do I use T-mobile's SMTP or my regular internet provider's SMTP.

You would use the T-Mobile SMTP server the same one you use with your T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition.

the reason you can't send email is cuz your ISP is blocking you. You aren't on their network (your IP) Spammers used to do this and send to other peoples. But as a service to their customers (this sux if you ask me) you can use the SMTP to send to an email address of theirs. Which is why you can send to yourself

EG. you can use cox's SMTP server to send to @cox.net email account but not to a @yahoo.com account or anywhere else.

I wish my server required authentication to send out emails so i can use it from wherever i was but that's not the case.

So yeah, get the T-Mobile SMTP server address and use that to send email, the return email should be your normal email address. Make sure you have the return address entered.

Uh, Can someone please be nice and edit her post and remove the mentioned email account? I once made the same mistake (putting my email on a webboard) .. and the next day I receive several hundreds male organ enlargement emails (sorry) .. thus I have to change my username. :devilboy:

Everyone else, thanks for your inputs. I'll change my SMTP and use T-Mobiles -see how that works out.

You can also try using the smtp server at http://smtp.com, which should work from any provider or device with no smtp authentication.
