Unless they use 802.11g or really optimize their network, I think they'll be looking at "webcam" type images.

What the cameras record and what is actually transmitted wirelessly are two different things. The police themselves say they can read your watch. "We can zoom in tight enough to read someone's watch." The camera has a 60 X zoom on it.

Some of my nicer memories from attending Ga. Tech in Atlanta, GA was going with a big group of fellow students to the main Krispie Kreme factory and buying 6 - 10 of the boxes right out of the oven where you had to wait for the coating to solidify before you ate them.

You really need to read the Loronix story for Seal Beach PD! They have antennas in their cars that pick up the networked digital video via access points around Seal Beach! They primarily view the video on their laptop inside the car, but they also have WiFi-enabled iPAQs running special Loronix software which allows them to view camera shots while away from their car, as well as choose any of the other camera locations they have available (of which there are many!).
They have shots of numerous branches of a bank, some retail stores as well as public areas, and the list of participants is growing.
If one of those banks is being robbed, they can see the shots of the bank as they are in route. This will help them ID how many there are, what the hostage situation looks like, and so much more. Then, if they need, they can exit their car, safely stand out of sight, and see when the thieves are walking out the door!
All with very decent quality images!
Powerful stuff!
