Now here is a question for any current or past Jornada 540 series owners.
What I am after is the image that appears briefly on the screen of the 54x series Jornadas after doing a soft reset. You know the one a small very colourful honey eating bird. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the image could be found in the ROM somewherem but cannot remember the name of the file.
Any ideas?

the best way i can think of is to get an image viewer and go into the windows folder and view all images in that folder.
i am not sure this will work though because it has been almost a year since my 548( i miss it much  )
anyways, try that and if it doesnt work let me know and i might be able to come up with something.

Ahhh if only I could. The problem is that I have also forgone my Jornada 545 for a 568, but I still miss that startup image - and I would love to have a copy of it to make a theme background. I don't even know what sort of bird it was - some sort of honey eater.

I'll look on my 548 tonight and see if I can find it for you...
As long as it hasn't been destroyed yet...

That would be great - here's hoping :D
On the down side :( I have been having a bit of a think about it myself and seem to remember once searching for it in the rom of my 545 and not being able to find it - of course that may have just been that I did not know what I was looking for. I guess it has to be in there somewhere....

No joy... :(
I would imagine that since it appears before the OS is loaded, it is not available once the Pocket PC is finished "booting" up...
Sorry...

No worries Steve - thanks for trying.
As I said in my last post that is sort of what I expected. Oh well maybe I will just pick myself up a cheap 54x from ebay and fire it up every now and then just for a bit of nostalgia :D

I have a coworker that was able to replace this picture. It is a HIDDEN file in the /Windows directory but I don't remember the name of the file.

hmmmm interesting - so they may be a way.
Just to get this straight are you talking about the image that comes up after a soft reset? I know there is a file called hpstart.bmp that can be changed to alter the background for the owner info screen.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was the soft reset image and as I remember it did not have a normal .bmp, .gif, or .jpg extension but unfortunately my coworker is on vacation for the next couple of weeks so I can't ask him.

Well, I brought the Jornada with me (It's bring your "retired buddies" to work day)...
Let me look again...

My coworker has returned from vacation and the little bird picture is not the one that he replaced. He also believes that this is in the ROM portion that can not be accessed.
SORRY GUYS (and GALS)!

Yeh - I thought that was probably the case. Oh well.
Thanks for the time and assistance anyway.
