One of the items them mentioned in passing will get some people in this community very excited: a 1.3 megapixel SDIO camera. Nice! It's supposed to retail for $150 USD or less, and should hit the shelves sometime in October. I imagine it will only work with iPAQ Pocket PCs, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/new-hp-camera.jpg" /> <br /><br />"This is a Secure Digital (SD) camera designed by HP specifically for its iPaq Pocket PCs. The 1.3-megapixel-resolution camera is better than most VGA cameras built into some models or offered as accessories."

Nice, but I'd rather see HP release a 19xx model with built-in camera.

8O I want one!!! Umm, that is, if it is any good at taking pics. :Fade-color
But will probably find that out quite fast around here, won't we? :)

Hey, maybe the HP logo even doubles as a flash!? Naah, :idontthinkso:

I don’t see any flash! And I wonder if it comes with built-in extra memory. With 1.3 MP for sure you will need more memory.

I almost rolled when I saw that.

Ooh, something expensive that can break easily. I have a problem with thin expansion card formats(ie: smartmedia, sony stik), they tend to get bent or cracked in backpack. Whatever is not 'spose to happen, happens. Tis why I generally stick to CF. I, also, rather would have it built-in.

no flash=bad, no camera w/o flash will ever match one with flash. i rather leave my sd for memory and cf for stuff though

It would be nicer if they had a small bluetooth camera with enough memory to hold maybe 4 high res shots (maybe 8MB built in or so). Transfer images via bluetooth. Also, remote control maybe 15 feet using bluetooth.

That would be my dream purchase at this point.

Actually, another idea of mine is the 802.11 bluetooth "puck"

It would be a iMac-mouse-looking device that:

1. Takes a couple of AAA batteries
2. Bridges 802.11b with bluetooth

Now THAT would be cool.

If they could create that, and put a little camera on top, I'd pay $300 for it.

That would be a good idea. Although I wounder if how both bluetooth and 802.11b being on the same 2.4ghz specturm is going interfere with each other.

:D This is the Kinda flimsy gidjet that tends to fail the Raph test(my backpack full of geek stuff). I'd stick with my 5 megapixel C5050. I gotta admit..the 2210 is a godsend device! Just not for cameras though

Hmmm....

About time. Actually I wish the i700 had this built in. Not bad but flash is needed.

I'll probably go ahead and get my 4 megapixel camera: Minolta Dimage S414 (I think I can get it for under $300 too) instead.

Actually, they seem to be okay coexisting. In rare cases, the 802.11b signal strength drops, but that's the exception.

At home, I use those bluetooth and 802.11b, along with my 2.4GHz cordless phone. Amazingly, they coexist nicely.

My employer, an airline, employs both technologies and they also coexist there nicely. :)

I agree! :way to go: For a company that's pushing Bluetooth in their entire product line, they sure are underutilizing it. Have *you* seen a serious line of PPC accessories from HP. I didn't think so.

BTW, going on this camera, did anyone also pick up how many of the new products are accepting SD cards? All their PPCs, most of their photoprinters, and that massive 17" laptop.

Sitting at my desk I have a cordless phone, cordless (RF) mouse and keyboard, two laptops with WiFi (one also with BT), my cellphone (with BT) and my iPAQ with both a WiFi cad and BT active. Occasionally, I have all active and I can't tell if they're interfering wth each other. All seem to work when I try to use them.

Back on topic, The size of the SD card makes me skeptical that this will be robust enough for a "road warrior'. I still think CF is a more robust solution for this sort of device. Also, the lack of a flash is a killer (but then this would have made the device bigger, further stressing that litle SD interface).

I think that I'll be waiting for a camera with either BT or WiFi that i can remote with my 2210. It would have CF or SD for storage so that i can edit/store photos easily on my PC or 2210. And it would be cheap!

my solution right now is the LG VX6000 phone for snapshots on the go. yeah, it's 640x480 and shots are mediocre, but it works, and i can email myself or others photos directly from the phone. My phone is a lot easier for just snapping shots on the go, certainly easier than trying to take photos from a PDA with a thing sticking out on top (by the time i get it out, turn it on, start the software, and plug in the camera (if necessary), the shot would be long gone). I'd like to see the US release of a megapixel camera phone, but until then, I have the dual camera solution: the camphone for quick shots that can go anywhere, and my 2MP Fuji for more serious snapshots. I just can't justify sinking money on a camera that sits on top of my PDA. As much as I love accessories for my 2210 (look at my signature ) this one i'll pass.

Speaking of cameras, is there any hope in getting the old iPAQ CF camera to work with the newer units/OS?

Here's hoping,
