This guy here (http://forums.netstumbler.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7614&perpage=15&pagenumber=3) (login required) is saying he managed to "unlock" an additional built-in 64MB of ram on his 5450.

the 5550 is the exact same hardware as the 5455. EXACT same. The only difference is that the 5550 series comes with 2003 software installed and more ram (which CAN be unlocked on the 5455)

(this was later disputed and proven otherwise, except for the unlocking)

You *MUST* have 2003 os installed for the changes. Seems that HP made the ROM restrict the memore and all. 2003 software does not, but must be changed.

I am still looking for the memory tweak...

I really do have 128 with 98.3 in use

That wouldn't make sense for HP to do this (put in 128mb RAM) in the 54xx device to never use it. Otherwise, why would there be a service to add memory hardware to the device?

I agree with you, it does not make economical sense to put 128 megs in a device that will only be using 50% of it ... unless the RAM comes in 128 megs package.
