I am very intrigued by using a cell phone as a modem for suring the internet with my Ipaq and my cell phone contract. I know I can use a phone like the Nokia 3650 with bluetooth, but what other phones can I use? I know I would have to probably by some kind of card to connect to non bluetooth phones but what should I be looking for? For instance cingular.com lists the Motorola C331t as being 'wireless modem capable'. They list other phones as GRPS and still others as Wireless Internet Capable - (WAP 1.2.1). The WAP phone is the Nokia 6340i but it does not list it as being wireless modem capable.

I'm no phone guru but my understanding is that there are 3 main ways to connect your phone to your PDA. You can either use IR, Bluetooth or a cable.

I think that most of the phones made nowadays that have IR are useable with the Ir on your PPC. Likewise. you should be able to easily pair your phone to your PDA with Bluetooth and then setup a connection on the PPC to dial the ISP. Any phone with either bluetooth or IR (some have both) should have built-in modem fuctionality.

True, but the ability to do anything with that connection is very much a function of the carrier. For example I can connect my Jornada 568 to my Nokia phone via IR and it is recognized as an IR modem, BUT...ATT doesn't support using the phone as a modem on their CDMA network. So. phone and PPC are capable, but the carrier kills it.

So check with your carrier and see what they have to offer, whether with your iPAQ, your current phone and current plan, or with a new phone, plan, or even a different carrier. There are some darn good unlimited data deals out there, but they are not with ATT. Unfortunately I need to talk on my phone from places where the folks around me with other carriers don't have service.

BTW, with a 2210, I'd be looking for a BT capable phone.
