<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=492' target='_blank'>http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=492</a><br /><br /></div>If you're the kind of person who likes a bit of added protection for your Pocket PC, then you no doubt know about Proporta's aluminum (or "aluminium," depending on where you live) cases. Much to the joy of many Pocket PC owners, Proporta has just announced the launch of their cases for the new HP 2200 device.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/adrian/proporta2200.jpg" /><br /><br />I can attest to the fact that these cases are excellent. They're made from aircraft-grade aluminium, have a soft neoprene lining and feature a great cover that snaps snugly shut. The cases are ALMOST ready to be shipped ("sometime in the next few weeks"), so Proporta is taking preorders at £24.95 (or about $40.00) each.<br /><br />BUT...Here's a neat little benefit. The people at Proporta know that HP 2200 owners will want to protect their new devices while waiting for their aluminium case to arrive. So, if you preorder one, they'll immediately send you a neoprene case to protect your 2200 in the meantime. I think that's a nice touch of customer service, don't you?

The neoprene case is the £17 one? If so, sweet deal! Two cases for different occasions, for the price of one. :way to go:
I'll have to consider Proporta in the future. I'll probably end up spending more on my iPaq this year than on myself. 8O

Yep  I just got mine yesterday and it is the same one displayed on their site - the blue one. I held out for Proporta's aluminium case and now I am definitely glad that I did :D sweet deal!
So why the price difference (http://www.innopocket.com/EShop/Main/product.php?ID=79&name=iPaq)? :?

I was looking at the Innopocket too. One thing I notice that Proporta has cutouts for the lights, the Innopocket doesn't. Plus i think I want the neoprene case that Proporta will give me.ehehhehehe
I'm turning into a case freak again. I think I'll get the Bellagio slipper case next month for my 2210 also. :(
No wonder I'm broke....

You would appear to lose the benefit of the rubber grips with this case ... any comment on the overall bulk it would add. I've just replaced a 3630 with silver slider CF sleeve for a 2210 and LOVE :D the form factor of the 2210 !!
I'd hate for the case to add too much bulk and weight ...
... also, can you sync / use a keyboard with the case in place and, if not, can you easily slip the iPAQ in and out of the case?

you also need to consider whether you will like to operate your ipaq with the flip cover moving to side ie still in the way of fingers etc

This is the exact reason why I haven't rushed to get one of these cases is I don't think I'd like the way I'd have to hold the case to use the ipaq if the cover just swings and hangs open to the side. I'm sure in the near future some one will release a metal case that flips to the back and thus out of the way.

Considering that this is just a mockup pic, you should look at the specs for the Innopocket case, I bet that it will have it in the final version. Proporta and innopocket cases are usually 99% identical with the exception that Proporta puts its logo on the front.
And the neoprene case is nothing to write home about. I mean, it works, but it is nothing I'd ever use. I ended up selling it with a PDA I sold on eBay. When I FINALLY got my Proporta case (took like 2 months from the time I ordered and 3 phone calls) I was happy with its quality. What I was NOT happy with though is the fact that people who ordered from Innopocket got their units for less money and it didn't take them nearly as long to get their units.
So this time, I'm going the Innopocket route.

I bought one of these for my 1910 and returned it because it was hard to hold when open. Its a shame because it was well constructed, nice to look at, and provided much better protection than the leather case I replaced it with.

I only bought it to carry my 1910. I didn't buy it to use while holding the device. I only hold my devices "naked"

Another question...
Does the metal case block the bluetooth radio (or possibly enhance it like an arial)?
Does anyone have experience with this?

The 2215 speaker is in the back of the unit

the neoprene case is crap, dun be fool by that (like me), but the aluminum case for my 1910 is great, thou a little bit heavy.
If the speaker of 22xx is at the back of the device, the case might totally block the sound of it.... not very good....

Really? I found it to be a tight fit. It would be a pain to keep removing and reinserting the ppc. Also, sharp edges on the inside of the case scratched the ppc whenever I put it in or took it out.
I wish pocket pc's just came with some kind of rigid protection for the screen. Its amazing that they don't. Oh well, I'm not holding my breath.

Something like the Jornada flip cover would be perfect.

What about the plastic screen covers I've seen on some of the older ipaqs. Are those smoke colored covers oem from hp or are they aftermarket. They seem to be that Ideal solution, since they can be folded to the back of the ipaq. That's the sort of thing I'd like to see for the 22xx.

The only problem with a flip cover is that it WILL allow you to use the PDA without a case, but you always end up wearing the paint out on the edges of the device...I know I did on my Jornada 567.

This is not a problem, but rather the desired effect of having such a cover. Many of us are looking to maintain the small form factor of our pda without bulking it up with large leather cases.

I came to my senses and cancelled my order. I Forgot my horrible experience I had with the Rhinoskin for the H3135. I had to take it out of the Aluminum case to use my PPC. I got a lot "oohhs and aahhhs" for the case, but the looks was not worth the hassle. :|
I just ordered the Bellagio slipper case, which in my opinion is the best type of case.
Why don't manufacturers make a leather slipper case with a metal insert for the screen part. Now That! would be a winner.

Many of the leather cases I've seen and used, like the slipper cases from EB Cases, have a pretty substantial stiffener in the cover, so it protects the screen pretty well. It's not impregnable, but it puts up with most everyday handling.
Another Q besides the ones mentioned here -- does this aluminum case have a flat back (resting on a desk w/ stability)? Like if you need to use it as a calculator...
Anyways whatever happened to plans for a flip cover using the 2210's hooks on the back?

Those are exclusively from HP. But you can buy them separately. Also, they only function with the 3xxx/5xxx series.
I'm always walking around where I work, in and out of my office, which means my Pocket PC gets put into and taken out of the sync cradle dozens of times a day. These Proporta cases look great initially, except I bet you can't put your device in a cradle with it, right? No way am I going to be putting a big bulky case on and off my PPC every time I go out or come back!
Too bad, looks like a great solution otherwise...

The Proporta case for the Zire 71 (which also has a speaker at the back) has a speaker cutout, so I'm assuming that the 2210 case will have the same thing. One thing that's interesting is that these cases have gone from the normal "Western" book style, opening it to the left, to the "Eastern" book style of opening it the right. I agree that it would be better if you could fold the lid all the way to back so that it would be easier to hold, but as the lid isn't flat, doing so would not be possible. After awhile you get used to holding the case even though it's more awkward - much more comfortable to hold a leather flip-top.
