Hi,

Just got this from HP UK, seems HP over here are using different arrangements to distribute the upgrade. So we will be purchasing it from resellers other than HP. But won't be ready to the 1st of September... :roll:

------------------------------------
Email from HP;

Dear Mr Brown,

Thank you for your e-mail to HP.

The disks should be with our resellers from the 1st of September. There has been a delay with shipment which means the disks have not been available on the date we were expecting them. The following resellers should be able to supply you:

www.expansys.com

www.microwarehouse.co.uk

www.totalpda.co.uk

www.insight.com/uk

If you require further information or advice on HP products, please reply to this e-mail or call 0845 270 4222 (calls charged at local rate). Operational hours: Monday to Friday 0900 - 1730.

Regards,

Jennifer Adams

Insight UK seem to be listing the 3870 upgrade, but no others.

From Insight UK

here is the link;

ipaq 3970 (mfr prt:FA176A#AC3) http://www.insight.com/uk/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=HPPC2003U1

I find it odd they say they are only getting one in on the 28th of August, but the manufacturer part and description are correct. They are also listing for the 5450

Thanks for that link Andy, I have managed to order one. I did try Expansys but they told me "we do not sell this upgrade. We will not be able to sell this this in the future." so your information was timely...

Hi,

I've rang Insight a couple of times now, seems I was the first with ordering the upgrade from them. However the "1 in stock 26/8/03" as it says today is complete rubbish. Its been hovering between 1 and 4, for the last week or so and though each day the amount and date seems to change they have not had any stock in yet. I'm pretty sure HP are right so don't expect anything to happen to the 1st of Sept at the earliest. Nice to know that you've ordered it though :)

Thanks for the info Andy. While I was there I also found something I've been after for ages - and had been told didn't exist. I've always bought my MS software using their educational versions. But I'd been told that WinXP didn't have such an option. So I was delighted to find it here (http://www.insight.com/uk/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=MSSA026NU) for just £47 (inc VAT).

Hi,

Yeah I normally get the student versions aswell. I do remember ringing microsoft and them telling me that there would be no windows XP student versions.

I notice amazon now have the student version of Office 2003 listed for £120. I also notice that if you purchase Student Office XP at the mo you get a "free" (p&p) Office 2003, I wonder how much Student Office XP is 8) .

AndyAmazon have Office XP for £85 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005RTUM/qid=1061994794/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/202-3173188-6088630) but no mention of a free copy of Off2k3.

I'd still opt for Office2000. Just £68 and includes loads that the XP package don't (like PowrPoint and Access).

The Microsoft technology guarantee gives free upgrades to office 2003 if you purchase between August 15th and November 30th. Much like the WM2003 for iPAQ's purchased it a specific period, see the link below.

Hmmm. Looks like I might have to investigate whether it'd be worth moving to Off2003 from Off2000.
