<a href="http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/331735">http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/331735</a><br /><br />If you have the Microsoft beta webserver for the Pocket PC installed, you may need to uninstall it until a security hole is plugged. I believe it comes in the SDK. It claims the default install leaves the system wide open. Microsoft has apparently pulled it from their site and is working on a patch.
Microsoft web server insecure?! Holy sh*t! You've -got- to be kidding me.

Well, the download WAS pulled. It's still available elsewhere, of course. In case anybody is wondering what the software is all about, you can read more about it at http://www.davespda.com/features/imginpie.htm or http://www.angrycoder.com/article.aspx?cid=11&y=2001&m=10&d=18 or http://www.angers.ensam.fr/wce/_0_site_web_2001/site_anglais/travail_angers/serveur_web.htm
Hmm. I was not aware that it was available for download anywhere. I have my copy from the SDK. (though I never got it to function properly)

The web server I referred to is a slightly older version referred to as SQL Dashboard. The one in the SDK is a few months newer. The nice thing about the older version is that it only can be started manually - by running an executable.
it's "Vulnerability"... you forgot the 'L' ;)
Anyway, i've never even heard of this before. Does this allow PPC to act as a webserver or something?
Yes. Though I greatly prefer Apache.

oh cr@p! I use this. Good thing it's only on the PPC that i use ~ twice a week now, and is usually disconnected when I do so.

...why would anyone want to run a webserver on a Pocket PC? I mean, yes, I know you CAN, but is there any practical application for this?

Ad hoc file sharing, remote device management, using ASP to get local database values, etc.
The average user wouldn't have much of a need, but devs and admins may.
You have it all wrong. Don't think "Why?", think "Why not?".

I grabbed this (screw the hole, my PPC is behind my router anyway) and I can see it very useful with a WiFi connection (built-in even moreso) being able to grab files from anywhere.

Kinda OT, but has anyone had problems with this starting up? When I do want to use it, it sometimes won't kick in. Other times, it's fine.
