Hi everyone, I have a question regarding connecting my 2210 to
cellphone which is Motorola Timeport T8767. I searched the whole
Wireless Forum and I couldn't find anything. I was wondering if anyone
has done something like this? Has anyone connected their IPAQ
37xx/38xx/54xx/55xx to cellphone through a cable.

While searching for this I found out the following products

http://www.socketcom.com/product/DP3042-240.asp

and

http://www.mobileplanet.com/private/pocketpcthoughts/product.asp?dept%5Fid=4451&pf%5Fid=MP640623&listing=1

Has anyone tried these products? Did they work for you? and was the
setup too much of an hassle?

Also, if anyone can give me info as to what setup is required or point me
to a location with this information, that would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks,
-Getafix

I have used a cable to connect to a Motorola phone and my iPAQ in the past. The issue probably isn't so much the hardware but whether or not your wireless carrier actually supports data connections on their network.

I've got Verizon Wireless, So, I suppose they do support data connection on their network.

I haven't connected my PDA (2210) to my cell phone (StarTAC) yet, but I've been looking into it in some detail, as I'm planning on making my own cables. You're on the right track, but I've got a few additional links for you. If I were buying cables, I'd buy from Gomadic (http://www.gomadic.com) - the cable you're looking for is the same price as the one from MobilePlanet and Gomadic will exchange your cables for free if you change cell phones or PDAs.

Sounds like you're concerned about the ease of setup, too. Download this file (http://www.thesupplynet.com/drivers/PDA.zip) from The Supply Net's Download page and see what's involved for your hardware. Seemed pretty simple to me.

Let us know how it goes!

Yes, they do support it. You'll be using your regular airtime minutes and the speed will top out at about 14.4kbps... so browsing is pretty slow.. but e-mail and IM work pretty good.

I used my old iPaq 3650 and a Qualcomm 860 phone for about 18 mos. as my wireless (ah, yeah!!) solution. It works in a pinch. You'll need to have an ISP (I used Earthlink) and then you just program your PPC to dial the number and connect. (Your cell phone looks like a modem to the pocket pc.)

Now, I've moved up to Verizon's express network (CDMA 1xrtt) and let me tell you, it's worth every penny and then some! I put a PCMCIA sleeve on my iPaq 5455 and I can connect either through the cell card, bluetooth or WIFI! The cell "card" will work in either my laptop or my PPC, so depending on how mobile I want to be, I can adjust accordingly. :D
