View Full Version : Would this work? WiFI without SDIO?

Ok, I've been up all night (way too much coffee) and have been pondering how to hook my T-mobile pocket pc into my 802.11b wireless network. I know my puny SD slot won't do SDIO, but I did see something that may work - but since I have limited Pocket PC knowledge, I need to know how feasible it is.

1. Gomadic and a few others make cables that will allow you to hook up accessories from an ipaq 3600/3700 series to an xda type phone (see http://www.gomadic.com/ip31totmobxd.html# )

2. Ipaq 3600 series had an optional PC Card expansion pack (see http://www.shopping.com/xKW-ipaq_expansion_pack/NS-1/linkin_id-3001141/GS.html ) .

So, what I'm trying to figure out is - can you use one of those adapters to hook up the 3600 series pc card expansion pack and then just slip an 802.11b pcmcia card into the expansion pack? Sure it wouldn't fit nicely because it was designed for the ipaq, but it probably wouldn't be that cumbersome and if feasible, would allow 802.11b on the xda types.

Is this possible? Like I said, being a recent convert from Palm devices to Pocket PC, I'm not too familiar with how the pc card expansion pack hooked into the ipaqs.

Thanks,
Jon.

Here's the problem. The Gomadic adapter is used "duplicate" the serial / sync port on the Ipaq. The Ipaq's expansion sleves actually connect through a different, dedicated connecter located behind the serial / sync port. (See picture... the Gomadic adapter is for that small port... the sleves connect to the larger port.)
