Has anyone had any luck dialing out on an iPAQ, or any PPC for that matter onto the Xpress network? I can connect my 5555 to my cell and dial a regular modem call but I cant get my express service to work on the 5555.

Hello Lasher,

I have the iPAQ 2210 with a Socket DPC that connects to my Kyocera 2235. If you are using a Socket card as I am, they reported that they do not have drivers at this time for Windows Mobile 2003, but plan for them in the next month or so. My does work so I will tell you what I have my settings on in case it helps you or anyone else.

Phone:
(I called Verizon to make sure that I had access to the Express Network)
I set the com port speed (SETTINGS > ACCESSORIES > COM PORT SPEED) to 115.2 which is the only speed that seems to work.

I connect the cable from my CF slot to the phone.

PDA:
I set up a new connection by tapping on the "connection" icon next the volume icon at the top of the screen. I hit SETTINGS > ADD A NEW MODEM CONNECTION. Name the connection what you wish, then I selected my Modem SOCKET and hit next. I enter the express phone number which is #777. My user name is my cell phone number with area code, but without the first 1 followed my vzw3g.com (ie. [email protected]) Your password is simply: vzw. I also hit the ADVANCED button and changed the baud rate to 115200. Click finish.

To start a connection simply tape the connection icon again and click on the link that should connect you.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for that, it is what I have tried already though. I'm using the T720 with a cable hooked up to my 5555. It doesnt even look like it tries to dial out when i follow your procedure. :(

I don't know that phone, but I only happened to find my settings work by trying all the combinations of the phone com port speed and the baud rate of the PDA. I had the same problem - the phone wouldn't dial out - it wouldn't do anything when set up for the Express Network.

Well, I wish you luck. Do you know how to find out the speed of any given connection? Sometimes I feel like it just flies and other times it seems kinda slow and would like to be able to see what speed it is connected at.

The T720 is a motorola phone. My understanding of the speed is that it can fluctuate during the connection. Most of the time it seems to be about the same as a 56k modem. better that the 14.4 you would get using the phone as a regular modem. I'll keep trying using your suggestion of playing with the connection rate. :D

When did you purchase your T720? The first couple firmware versions for the phone were extremly unreliable and resulted in anything from a dropped call to the phone freezing while ringing continously... You might think about having a local Verizon store flash your phone to the newest firmware.

Thanks for bringing that up. In December I got a new phone at no charge for that reason. They had sent out notices about that and offered free new phones and an extra battery. I thought that was pretty decent of them at the time.

I'm assuming I have a good phone at this point.
