I am trying to sync my 2215 with my laptop at work that uses Windows NT. Since NT has no USB connectivity, I have to do it using the serial port. I was able to do this with my old 36xx unit and thought it would be just as easy with the 2215. I purchased a Belkin USB/Serial sync cable made for the 38xx series since I read the expansion ports are identical. However, I have had no luck doing this.

Is it possible to do a serial connection in this manner with the 2215? If so, any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong? I really don't want to return this little baby but....

I believe that the PC and iPAQ recognize each other at some level, but just don't seem to connect. By that, when I connect the serial cable to the desktop, Activesync automatically starts up and looks for
the device and starts spinning its arrow logo button. The iPAQ also starts looking for a connection but after some time there is a stalemate and the desktop says that it is "Waiting for Device to Connect" and the iPAQ says " Connect to: '115200 default Status: Device Connected"

Nothing happens beyond this and no connection is made. I also tried this on my home computer running XP and the latest download of Activesync but had the same series of events occur.

Any help is appreciated!

Any reason why you can't go with infrared?

Yes, the system admins do not allow us to install the IR port drivers, so only way to connect is via serial cable. I know, my company is very behind the times, but they prefer to be overcautious about upgrades.

I assume then that you have a COM port (software driver) installed for that serial port (hardware)? That isn't already installed, then that can usually be installed by doing a "Find New Hardware" routine via the Control Panel (hopefully you have the rights to do that...).

Just wanted to provide an update-it looks like the iPAQ was defective. I replaced it with a new one and hand absolutely no problems syncing. This is great!

What version of activesync are you using. I've got the same problem. Had my 2210 for about a week now. Work is using NT and version 3.1 of activesync with no date to package/install v3.7 as yet.
