I was doing some reading on wireless networks. The information mentioned using GPS for wireless networking.

I was wondering what the purpose of this would be other than comparing your location to a known AP, which I can't see doing, since most WiFi card drivers have some way of letting you see when your connecting and what the signal strength is. Does anybody here use any kind of setup like this, or can anyone explain what the purpose of this is?
The information I was reading made it sound like the GPS was being used as an antenna to for networking, which can't be correct (I don't think).

There is a ?Sport? where one goes out with a gps and special software, to see how many access points or ad-hoc networks you can find, and what there wep status is. This is generally called war driving, or war walking by those who do it. And the idea is to map, and see how many you can find in a period of time. The Gps is used to plot your position on a map when you find a signal.
