View Full Version : 5455 Much slower after 2 weeks of use. Is that normal?

My 5455 seems much slower today than it did ~2 weeks ago when I got it. Particularly after doing a soft reset, the time to go from the 'my info' screen to the fingerprint/password screen seems very long. Even when not doing a soft reset, just after having the unit off for a couple hours, the delay on that my info screen seems to be longer than it should.

Has anyone else seen this?

Is this possibly just due to the fact that I've installed software etc, using up some of the units memory, and slowing it down? Or is there something else going on here?

If you're running PPC 2002, it might be related to some files in your \Temp directory. go there and check to see if you have any *.tmp files. If you do, delete them, soft reset and see what happens.

If you have any software installed that runs on device start up (soft reset) then this will slow things down as well on device start.

It shouldn't have any effect if you simply power th4e unit off and turn it back on hours later...unless there's something that I'm missing (I don't think there is).

Hope this helps...

Kind Regards,

There were at least several dozen .tmp files, I'm removing them now, and will see if that has any effect.

The delay I mentioned after a couple hours perhaps should be clarified... it seems to be a long delay from the my info screen to the fingerprint screen. I have it setup to require a login after an idle period. Thus, when I leave the unit unattended for a period of time, it seems slow to startup again.

So it seems perhaps the main issue I'm having is with the login screen taking a long time to load. It seems to take longer after a reset, but still a long time even after just powering the unit back up from a power off state.

One of the things that I have noticed with my 5400 and using the bio-metric finger reader for password protection is that the DLL that manages this loads and unloads with each soft reset AND each power on (if you have the password utility set to prompt you for a password/pin/fingerprint each time you power on).

As a result, it will take a bit of time to load and process the DLL. I have noticed some slowness of loading the DLL from time to time, and have not been able to see any pattern to this. Sometimes its slow, sometimes it isn't.

Go figure...

Okay, I've only used the fingerprint reader, so this could well be the issue I'm experiencing.

Which brings me to a question of security... I'll start a new thread for that one. :)
thanks!

This is a top tip! My 5450 was taking about 15 seconds to display the start menu immediately after a soft reset. Subsequent times were instant. Clearing the Temp folder cured this behaviour. Mysterious, but true.

Thanks again...
