View Full Version : Power consumption of CF versus SD?

I'd like to upgrade my Ipaq 3970 with some high capacity memory cards (512MB or 1GB).
Prices of SD cards this capacity are ridiculous, if you see how low CF are. So I thought about getting a sleeve for CF cards.
But what about power consumption? Will CF memory cards quickly drain my battery? Anyone have figures on how much watt a SD and a CF card use?
TIA!

If you are gonna be using CF, I would sell the 3970 and get a 2210. A 3970 + CF sleeve is a brick and a half these days.
But anyway...
Kingston CF Card
Power Consumption:
Sleep/Standby Current 100 uA (typical)
Read/Write Current 45 mA (typical)
75 mA (max.)
Kingston doesnt have power consumption listed for the SD cards (just says "low power consumption" and I couldnt find ANY info besides for Centon SD cards which state:
Power Consumption
Read: up to 60mA
Write: up to 100mA
Other brands and sites just say "low power consumption" or 45mA typical.
Pretty much I think they are about identical as far as power consumption goes. Of course it will vary by manufacture. Some brands of SD may use less power then others of Compact Flash, and the other way around.
Note: I used the code tag so formatting wasnt lost.

Thanks! Looks like it's not going to be a problem using CF
2200 series looks like a Dell to me, and the Dell costs much less over here... Why did HP drop the larger screen?? That's what made me choose HP over others, even without exchangable batteries. That few 10ths of an inch really make a difference, even compared side by side.
I don't really need super small or thin (got big hands and pockets) devices, I rather see a 4.5" display, that would make me forget my 3970 :)

eh - i suppose the axim meets the needs of many people, and at a lower price (unless you got the 2210 for $267 with student discount, like me :D.). Personally I could never use an X5 - my last device was a Clie t415, the thinnest Palm handheld ever, and i don't think i could have stood a brick like the Axim. Besides, i'm pretty skinny (6'2", 170 lbs) so keeping the Dell in my pocket woulda looked pretty funny (dude - is that an axim in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?), and i'm not one of those "keep the PDA in the briefcase" kind of guys.
Featurewise, as long as you don't need bluetooth they're pretty much the same, anyways.

Depends on what you're looking at. I checked the feature list, THEN the looks. Not the other way around. Over here the Dell is more than $100 cheaper and offers basically the same functionality, plus has much better battery capacity.
Like I said, looks/size don't matter to me.

NekoSo what you meant to say was - "The specifications look like a Dell's".
For many people looks/size is pretty important. And in those areas the 22xx and the Dells are chalk and cheese.

the 22xx and the Dells are chalk and cheese.
Wow - that's such a British-ism. What does that even mean, chalk and cheese? and how is the 2210 like chalk in this analogy? you crazy brits, with your extra "u"s in words with "o"s and funny rhymes ("leisure" rhymes with "pleasure?") :).
then again, i was born in the Southern US, home of such wonderful things as the contraction "y'all" :)
