I'll be publishing some tests later this week that compare an iPAQ 3650 with 2000, 2002, and 2003 beta on it - that will give you a good idea of how much difference the OS makes on exactly the same hardware.

Stop the press you had 2003 on a 3650...???

Yup. There are some benefits to being an MVP. Stay tuned...

Ok, so if HP can spend time making a copy of WM2003 for the 3650 that Jason owns , why can't we have a version for 36xx users?

I'm sure a some people would like an upgrade.

BTW Jason, you never got back to us on the Stay Tuned... bit, unless I've missed a thread.

To my knowledge, there are no plans to release a version of WM 2003 for the 3600. (Jason, chime in if you can...)

The way I understand how this whole ROM thing works is based on a Wizard type setup. In other words, the SDK for OEM developers gives the OEM the ability to build and ROM image and then create the distribution. I am certain that anyone over at HP/ Compaq could create a WM2003 ROM for any ARM based Pocket PC.

That doesn't mean that they will create one for public distribution.

When Microsoft runs a beta of a particular OS, they compile DAILY builds. Some of these are made available to the Technical Beta Team. Most are not. Some get leaked out, others don't.

Its the same with WM2003.

Just because Jason had a version of WM2003 for his 3650 doesn't mean that it will be made available for public consumption. Microsoft MVP's have access to some pretty neat stuff. This just happens to be one of the perks. It appears that someone over at MS or at HP put this ROM together for Jason, or for themselves and happened to share it with Jason...

Personally, I will be VERY interested in seeing what the benchmark data looks like for a 3600 with all three major Pocket PC OS' on it.

Jason, share the information with us as soon as you can!

Well, the primary purpose of this "perk" is to help with testing. And remember, these are often not even beta versions, so when it comes to making sure that the image doesn't completely hose your device, all bets are off.
