Like most of the kinds we've seen so far, they allow you to view multimedia files that are projected onto tiny screens directly in front of your eyes. These new models, though, have the added benefit of looking fairly chic.

The FoxNews article doesn't provide a whole lot of additional insight into the use of video goggles, but there are a few interesting comments:

• The goggles cost around $700 a pair.
• "Industry experts" are quoted as saying it might be hazardous to use these goggles while driving. Duh.
• There's a description of a family of wirelessly connected devices that sounds pretty cool: goggles, PDA, hands-free set, etc.

I've always wanted to own a pair of goggles like this, mostly so I can use them to watch MPGs on my Pocket PC.

Plus, I keep thinking of just how GREAT they'd go with my eVests!
I have heard that you cannot ewatch them long though. Headaches!!!

These are SUPER cool. I would definitely get one of these. I just have two questions:
a) What does the cable attached to the glasses to deliver video look like?
b) What is the resolution?
It looks like in 2005, they will have a Bluetooth version. That would rock. One less cable. AND if they can get batteries that would last a day developed by then, we got Mission Impossible going!
The possibilities for these things is close to endless. I think I would wait until 2005 since I would hate to need to where an eVest whenever I wanted to wear the glasses and not have cables everywhere.
I totally see some idiot wearing these while watching a move and driving at the same time.

If they built Bluetooth (if only to its own pocket pack that everything plugs into) and sound, then yes. Absolutely definitely. As it is you'll have to have several leads to your face, which we should be able to avoid by now...

Cassel, whose boutique has a wall of celebrity headshots like fashion darling Gwyneth Paltrow, laughed when asked if the glasses were stylish.
“They’re not exactly fashion forward,” he said. “They will only attract a specific audience — young, upscale and high-tech.”
That must be Brad!! :way to go:

These still look dorky to me but they are a bit better! :) Glasses are dorky to begin with. What about....CONTACT screens! That would be COOL! They'd have to be bluetooth though as it's difficult to attach a wire to your contact! :D That would probably not be possible.
Personally, I wish everyone would work on adding HUD's to cars. I know some cars have them but I think everyone could benefit buy having a HUD show not just your speed, but even teh radio frequency. You could change it by saying memory channel 2! Or just saying the freq....97.9 please! :) Or for track style navigation needed for cd's you could just say the track number. For MP3's, you coudl ask for the track or playlist by name. Fighter pilots use huds all of the time and they show a ton of info. Cars shoudl use them too! They coudl even run the hud off of AutoPC or somthing.

Gorkon - take a look at this...

The principles seem sound to me. Personally I'd like a complete GUI in a vehicle somehow (including mirrors).

As my teenage daughter once said to me when I asked her if wearing suspenders made me look like a nerd, "No the suspenders don't make you look like a nerd, Dad. Its the pda on your belt and pen in your shirt pocket that make you look like a nerd."
Nerd, Dork, etc. Let's face it, we are there.

"Dr. Mitchell Cassel, an optometrist at New York City eyeglass boutique Studio Optix (search), said watching something in your glasses while walking is a “ludicrous” notion, adding that it could be dangerous to use hand-eye-coordination skills while being mobile and distracted.
However, Maujean said common sense will keep Eyetop wearers safe."
This is a completely assinine thing to say. There is a big problem right at the moment with people using their mobile phones while driving!! That's why many places have institued laws about driving and mobile phone usage.
What makes you think that people will use any better judgement while wearing a pair of these glasses?
OK, now that people are getting excited about these types of displays, anyone with a spare thousand $$ want to go review one for us?

I was very surprised that DataNation was selling these.

We actually requested one for the review team, but I don't know what the status on that is yet.
