Gnomedex 3.0 attendees include a wide range of backgrounds including IT professionals, business owners/managers, and enthusiasts from all over the world. Come for the Business! The Gnomedex speakers will discuss their business successes and risks as well as talk about "what's next" in the industry. There are plenty of business opportunitiesfor your company at Gnomedex. Come for the Technology! Our partners will demonstrate their latest innovations, show you how to work them, and teach you how it will improve your "tech life". There's plenty of technology at Gnomedex."<br /><br />This is the third Gnomedex, and for the third time in a row, I'm unable to attend. On Wednesday of this week I'm flying down to Scottsdale, AZ, for the <a href="http://www.handango.com/summit2003.htm">Handango Partner Summit</a> (representing Spb Software House). But for those of you in or around the Iowa area, I've heard amazing things about Gnomedex - one person from Microsoft said it was the best conference she had ever attended, and she's been to a whole lot of them. I suggest you go check it out if you can!<br /><br />On a related note, I was hoping to set up some sort of unofficial "meet and greet" with Pocket PC users in the Scottsdale/Pheonix area, but the Handango conference schedule is packed, even during the evenings! Perhaps another time Arizona...

Well don't let them keep you cooped up too much of the time. Scottsdale has too many fun things to do to make it all business.

Casinos close by, bars, resturants, art galleries, shopping. Make sure you pick up some of that great western wear.

For things that may be going on while you are here check out....

The Gnomodex folks are fellow Iowans and Diane Dumas and I will be there. It's one of the few shows we can drive to!!!

I'm up in Minneapolis. I would totally go if I wasn't going to Las Vegas this weekend (for a friend's wedding).

It would be quite cool to put a face and voice with your name. If you've never been to Phoenix before, brace yourself. I haven't looked at the weather forcast for next weekend but on Sunday I saw a thermometer reading 120 F. The strange thing is - I LOVE living here.

Phoenix is a great place to live. Of course, you are visiting at the worst time of year...kind of like going north in January! But I'll always argue that Phoenix has the most pleasant months per year of any place I've ever been.

Anyway, where is the conference in Scottsdale? Some of us desert folks could at least recommend a few eateries or places to check out at night.

Right down Camelback ( left out of the Phoenician ) you have the huge Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. Tons of neat shops and resturants. If you plan on staying Fri. night and don't want to pay the price at the Phoenician, there is also a nice Motel 6 close to the mall, also right on Camelback Rd. In that Motel 6 is a great breakfast place, "The Original Pancake House", highly reccomended.

For Fri afternoon, shopping "Old Town Scottsdale", just south of Camelback on Scottsdale Rd. Also tons of great places to party in or around Old Town. Try Dos Gringos or the Cajun House for some interesting fun.

Thai food, Malee's on Main.
Sushi, RA

I used to live close by there and knew all the spots, but now back in Phoenix, so that will have to do for now.

I wonder if that's the same "Original Pancake House" we have up here in MN? If so, I agree, it is fantastic. They have about 20 different kinds of pancakes, as well as crepes and omelettes. It's really good-quality food, too, good coffee, fresh-squeezed juice, etc. The only drawback is that almost all the food seems like it was soaked it butter. It's delicious, but it's super-rich. Be prepared to feel a bit logy afterwards.
