Any suggestions of good anti virus PPC software. In case its important I've got McAfee VirusScan running on my desktop.

If I get a WiFi card should I be looking at a firewall as well? If so I'd welcome any suggestions.

Cheers

There are no Pocket PC virii yet, so it's not something you have to worry about - yet.

There are viruses as well as virus protections for Pocket PCs. Here are a few products that protect against them on your PPC:

Could you point me to a known Pocket PC virus in the wild?

I'd be pretty keen to hear of PPC virii? I'm sure that it would have been a headline in all the tech news if it had happened.

I don't think there are viruse that can attack a PPC. At least I haven't seen, heard or read about one yet. Now, there's always the chance to have a file that is infected with a PC virus on your PPC. The important part here is to have a virus scaning software that is up to date on your PC.

I don't want to dismiss the other poster saying there was a virus until he has a chance to provide proof, but you have to understand that Pocket PCs are basically immune to every desktop PC virus out there for one simple reason: they don't run x86 code! A virus writer would have to specifically code an ARM-based virus, and when you consider the relatively small number of ARM-based devices out there (Pocket PCs, Palms) I just don't see it happening for a few more years. Virus writers get off on the thrill of causing havoc, and the biggest and fattest target is x86 Windows.

Those Casio 1xx and Jornada 548 users have some real virus protection

I think an antivirus program might be useful if you are using your Pocket PC for sending/recieving email to prevent you from spreading a virus or inflicting a computer (not necessarily your own) with a virus when you sync to it. Not everyone has an antivirus program on their computer ;)

I would like to hear from those of you who have an antivirus program installed on their PPC. Do you find it useful? Have you detected any virii with it?

Sorry for the confusion guys. No, I don't know about any viruses that specifically attack PPCs. However, I know that there have been viruses that attacked mobile phones. I think the first link I listed had something about that in the article. Anyway, what I meant was more along the lines of what Eitel said: that if you wanted to protect your PPC from any virus your desktop PC might contract, you might be interested in the anti-virus software I listed. Also, it might not be too long before there actually IS a virus for the PPC. With the wireless world rapidly expanding, a virus is bound to show up eventually. So, for anyone that wanted to know of an anti-virus software for your PPC that was available now, the links are listed for you. Sorry again if anyone got confused by something I might have said earlier.
