All of you guys that have plunked down the $$'s for the 5555, are you happy? Any quirks? Heading off to buy one as soon as my replacement CC comes in the mail. What are your general comments/critiques/criticisms of the device. The one thing I so far don't like is no CIR, but, I can live without that. I searched for reviews from owners, but, I guess I'm searching wrong. I'm really in love with the device and can't wait to get one. Also, do you think it better to get one from BestBuy with the replacement plan or not. (Personally I would prefer the BB plan to skip the run-arounds of mailing back and forth with the OEM's)

I Love mines, it replaced my 5455 which worked well but the 5555 is just a joy to use. It's fast and beleive it or not I've only hit the reset button twice(pocket movie player causes some issue) but other than that I'm very happy. I too wish they left cir in but they didn't and I had to get over that. I have verified that they did remove it, it's not there at all. When I got my 5555 home I opened it up and compared it to my 5455 and the ir in the 5455 is different. Both my 5455 and 3970 have the same ir but the 5555 doesn't so there you have it. Performance wise it's great. I installed pocket tv on my 5555 and played the clip Mikes new car from monsters inc and on my 5455 I was getting 14.7 fps at best, on my 5555 I was getting 29.3 8O . Go for it I think you'll really be happy, as far as the replacement plans go I don't have a clue.

How does PIE run? My one quirk with the 3835 is that sometimes it can up to 45 seconds for the pages to load.

Dunno about the 5550 but since it's Windows Mobile 2003.... i can say pIE WHIPS!!!! I open mine on my Ipaq 2215 and that thing loads up pages in 2 seconds (well that's avantgo pages but i noticed it's faster than avantgo on others... about 50% faster to me... I load pages via the USB connection and it's still faster than before.)

Pages load up much faster than 45 seconds. I'll have to open some pages and see how long it takes, I jump between ie and netfront but pie does seem much better in the new os.

Recording is fine on my 5555, actually I never had a problem with the quality on my 5455 either.

I upgraded from a Jornada 568 to a 5555, I love it. The screen is big and easier to read and it just seems like everything flies. This was a greatgpurchase for me.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Expansion Jackets with the Extended replaceable battery on the 555x?

From the photos I've seen, the battery looks a bit too thick.

You can't use any expansion packs with the extended battery, the battery is just too big for anything to slide over it.

Takuo
Recordings made with both the 5455 and 5555 sound good.

5555 is the same as the 5550, just sold through a different channel if I'm correct.

Can 5555 redirect audio to a BT headset ?

If I upgrade my 5455 to PPC2003,
any differences btw 5455 and 5555,except the 128Ram and CPU255?

yes you can use a bt headset with the 5555.

the 5555 doesnt have consumer ir or nevo, while the 5455 does. Lack of CIR means the ir range is only a couple feet... no universal remote for you

I went from a 5455 to the 5555. It works well except the inbox. Actually its the outbox! The unit will not send email. I have been in contact with HP and they have refered my problem up their ladder. So who knows when I'll hear back from them.
My 5455 workied fine with my wireless conection. I shouild trade my wife back! Ha Ha....

I was going to upgrade to 5555. But a few things held me back!

1. One of my favorite medical program-uptodate does not support 5555.

2. NO nevo

3. Thunderhawk does not yet support it.

I will be waiting.

I must have been sleep when I wrote that post :twak: . Of course you can use expansion packs with the 5555, i'm using one right now. Using all my 3650 sleeves is one of the things I love about it. Can't post next time till I get some coffe..

I don't think you were asleep the first time, but maybe the second... You CAN'T use sleeves with the EXTENDED battery, because it sticks out too far. You can only use sleeves with the STANDARD battery. That's what you'd said on your first post, and you were correct.

By the way, to answer the original question... I also upgraded my 5455 to a 5555. I sold my 5455 on eBay, and got the 5555 for a $599 preorder price, so I paid a total of about $100 for the upgrade. In my opinion, the best money I ever spent on an iPAQ since I bought an open-box 3635 so long ago for half the normal price (with free protection plan, which since the sound didn't work on the 3635, got me a spankin' new 3765 for nada).

The only thing lacking in the 5555 is CIR and Nevo, but I never used those, so I guess I'm in the minority that doesn't really care about HP's decision to cut 'em. What it does have over it's older brother is double the memory, an upgraded CPU, and a new O/S, all of which make this one zippy little unit. The d-pad actually works like it should... something that could never really be said about the 5400 series... the biometrics work everytime (for me, at least), and I don't think I've ever been FORCED to reset the thing, which was almost a daily occurance on the 5455. The screen is as vibrant as ever, even though I still feel the touchscreen on the 5000 series feels a bit "mushy" compared to the 3800s and 3900s; and the sound from the built-in speaker is the same as the 5400 series, which sucks compared to the older siblings.

I have mixed feelings about the new WLAN software, since it seems much easier to set up... unless you don't have a standard configuration. I mean, just TRY to set it up if your router doesn't broadcast a SSID. Easy for the 5455, but impossible on the 5555. It can be worked around, of course, but I think they went too far with the Zero-Effort Configuration stuff. Still, if you DO have a standard configuration, it really couldn't be easier. I was in a hotel last week that had wireless support, and all I had to do to access the internet was turn on my wireless transmitter. I configured NOTHING! Sweet!

Once you ARE connected though, the thing flies. I can easily download files from my home-network to my SD card (without an active sync connection), and I can't sing enough praises about the new PIE... I mean, it's not IE6, but for a PDA, it's awesome!

In my opinion, there're only two, maybe three things, that would make the 5555 a perfect high-end PDA. The first would be phone capabilities, but we've already been down that road a dozen times. The second is built-in landscape mode, and the third an adjustable screen resolution (few web pages really support 240x320). The latter two can be had by third party applications (well, in the next few weeks, anyway), and you can always add a sleeve for the phone capabilities, so although the device isn't perfect, it's darn close in my humble opinion. (The screen sensitivity and sound could also be tweaked, but I was talking about missing features here, not the aforementioned glitches in the existing ones.)

Anyhoo... a bit long in the posting, but that about covers my thoughts.

You can use the HP slim thumbkeyboard with the extended battery. I am typing this msg on the thumbkeyboard and my 5550 and I love them both!!

It does have the BT headset profile ? Does that mean with the GSM/GPRS sleeve and a BT headset you finally have a decent Pocket PC Phone ? Can somebody confirm that this combination works ?

I know that there are numerous threads about the issues with the 5555 (Reminders, spongy screen, etc...), but I figured I'd summarize here:

Swapped out my 5555 for another, and the screen is much tighter than the other (though still a bit spongy compared to the 38xx and 39xx's).

My Reminders are going off normally! Yeah! :rock on dude!:
That was a MUCH needed thing to have back!

I am going to take it slow on installing apps, and only put in what I absolutely need at this point. I got too trigger happy with the other one (30+ apps!), and I think that contributed to my issues... ya think?!!!!
