I found this on the HP site HP 1910 (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/product_detail/product_detail_view.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0150179862.1058314590@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdfadcilfikmmgcfngcfkmdfondfgm.0&product_code=900842&cat_level=2&browse_link=true) Is this worth the price?

I would say no - it's just $70 less than a new 1945, and it is missing:
-Bluetooth
-SDIO
-PPC 2003
-"Newness" as opposed to refurbished
-Newer, faster processor

well for as cheap as $230 (forgot the link) you get what you pay for but i say it's worth the money tho. For that matter, forget the 1910, get the 1940/45 (samething) It's the same price as the 1910 but comes with Windowws Mobie 2003, Bluetooth, SDIO slot and 32MB ROM and 64MB RAM(all of which aren't on the older model - obviously the 1910 comes with 16MB ROM and 32MB RAM and yeah, faster CPU) So Bluetooth and SDIO are big reason to get that over the 1910 and it's the same price!!!

Apparently you got a E740 (forgot it's features) but i'd say the screen of the 1910 is better and when you see the size you'll be blown away (scratch that, 1940 - say it with me, 1940!) The most i'd say you'll miss is the CF slot which is on your E740 and integrated 802.11B. Wow those babies are cheap now tho... 269!!!!! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3035171979&category=38331) Well.. i'd still say get the 1940 tho!

Sell your Toshiba, no WM 2003 for it (some petition going on right now tho) so that device is basically a dead model right now. The 1940 is the latest model just coming hot off the assembly line[/url]

I have no plans for selling my e740. I was looking for a PPC for my brother. I planning on keeping my e740 until the next high end Toshiba, or perhaps the model after that. I like having built in Wifi and having 2 card slots. I also like the Toshiba form factor.

Dean, I would consider what you plan to use it for. Are you going to use bluetooth? Consider that the only things out right now are headsets and mobile phone connections. Likewise, are you going to use the IO of your SD card. That would mean removing any memory card that you will store your applications on.

If you just need a small PPC for notes, PIM, music, and great graphics then the 1910 is probably OK. Certainly the 1940 does not cost that much more but be sure to use the functionality that you are paying for. People always want to have the best but it is worth considering if you are actually going to use what you buy.

I tend to think Palm's advance over the PPC in screen resolution will bring out a new screen resolution next year. I am holding off on buying this year because of that. I was an early adopter of the 3600 and then was rather bummed that a series came out the next year with an internal slot. Now that I have a PPC that does what I need I can wait until what I am looking for comes out.

Well my brother mainly wants it for games and MP3s.

For MP3 then you will definitely want superior battery life. I have not seen the battery specifications on the 1940 but you will want to compare them with the 1910. In either case, you will probably just want to carry a spare charged battery in your pocket. I prefer the idea of a small form factor battery where I can put a spare in a separate pocket rather than bulking up my PPC with battery mass.

The critical application in your last message, Dean, is game play where your first thoughts are screen quality and speed. There is a bit of a controversy right now that the 1940 has a yellow tint to the screen. This is a new problem so the 1910 may not have it or it may be a quality issue where older units (i.e. 1910s) are free of the yellow whereas newer units (1940s and recent 1910s) have the yellow. Watch the reviews and comparisons between the 1940 and 1910 on the screen because the jury still seems to be out on this one.

Processor speed is the other immediate point for gamers. I have not seen the 1940 benchmarked against the 1910 but this could be the deciding factor. If the 1940 is significantly faster than the 1910 then it will run the games smoother. Besides, the 1940 has the .NET OS whereas the 1910 is locked out so upcoming games will certainly be compatible with the 1940 but may or may not be compatible with the 1910. The larger ROM in the 1940 gives added benefits like upgradeability and relatively large file store that the 1910 lacks.

Those are a couple points that I would consider but each of these points require an adequate review with benchmarks. We have not had a good comparison between the 1910 and 1940 yet so that information should be coming soon. Unless you need the iPAQ now I would hold out a week or so and see what a good review indicates on these and similar points.

If you need the iPAQ now (i.e. brother's birthday) then I would go to CompUSA or Fry's and check out the screens on both the 1910 and 1940 with comparing against the 2210 for a control. If the screens are equivalent then I would go 1940 but if the 1940 screen is yellow while the 1910 screen is clear then I would go 1910. I believe screen quality is simply that important on a handheld device and especially when game play will be a significant application.

Also for gaming, feel the device in the store to make sure the buttons are responsive, easy to push, not oversensitive, the d-pad is good, etc.

Thanks for all the help guys. It is not urgent though, my Brother likes to play games and such on my e740 and now he wants his own PPC. He doesn't need a high end model because I doubt he will use the advanced features. Thanks for letting me know about the different iPaq options I have to choose from. :D

I would go with the 1945 from Office Depot and use the 15% off coupon ( you can find it on the net or at my site) with free shipping, and you would have a new one instead of a refurb.

For playing games though the D pad is better with the 2215.
