Software I need - Suggestions?

(1) Feature-rich e-mail client with POP3 and IMAP4 support
(2) Total messenger including as many as possible of the following: AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ.
(3) IRC client
(4) Firewall (thin app. please!)
(5) Antivirus (is it really needed?)

FREE or at least cheap please!

i can tell you antivirus is more or less unnecessary... there are very few viruses that can affect pocket pcs at this point, and the ones that can simply can't spread like desktop viruses due to the relatively low number of PPCs that are connected to the internet, and more specifically, to each other. In fact, I don't know if there's ever really been a case of a PPC virus being "in the wild" and causing trouble.

Actually, that sounds pretty reasonable these days (two years ago i would agree you were nutsif you wanted a firewall, though). Modern PPCs can be used for everything from remote desktop access to wireless sniffing to running an FTP or web server (seriously), so a firewall is a rather logical next step. Not that I personally need one... but I understand why someone would want one, especially since the PPC is taken from place to place with absolutely no guarantee of adequate security for your confidential information if you log on to a network you may know nothing about (ie at a hotel, an office on the road, etc.). Do I personally find it overkill? yeah. But I don't have any trade secrets on my PPC. Some people do, and hey, just 'cause you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.
