View Full Version : Would you suggest a game for me?

I have not historically been a gamer, but I have PocketPop on my device and occasionally find myself starting it up to de-stress for 10 - 15 minutes at a time every couple of weeks.

I would like suggestions for a game that I would be able to play instead, but with the same usage pattern, that would be more interesting or even exciting. I would need to be able to save the game state and reload that state even after a soft reset. Maybe some kind of adventure game with multiple levels to work through? I am not interested in shoot'em up games as I believe there is enough violence in the world already. But otherwise, I am open to your suggestions. What do you use to get your mind off that project that is due in 10 hours that you have 30 hours of work left to do?

Thanks.

I would suggest the Astraware game package. It comes with 5 games. All the games are very addictive but the one you may find very addictive is "Diamond Mine". This game is hours of fun. You can find it at http://www.handango.com/astraware.

This really passes the time and meets all the requirements you were looking for.

well, adventure-game wise (assuming you dont' mind at least your typical RPG's violence) I've gotten fairly addicted to Everquest for PPC. There's also a decent port of SimCity 2000.

I like a good time turn based strategy game myself. It allows you to pick up where you left off when you have time available. I enjoy titles from Sean O'Connor games (Slay, Conquest), and he has demos available.

Brainstorm looks good, but does it let you save where you are at and return to it later? From the demo it did not seem to be so.

Argentum.

I love that game, best of its class on pocket pc. You can save state, tons of missions and expansions. Its like a "warcraft" form-factor designed for ppc - very nice controls and works well with hardware buttons (at least on my E-115). If you like war stragety you would love this. - yes, it has 6 or so save slots.

Yes each level saves once you finish it. Plus I found a reg key which you can change if you need to skip a level because you cannot figure it out. It gets THAT difficult at times.

If you want games without violence how about playing one of these lucasarts classics:

-indiana jones and the fate of atlantis
-sam & max hit the road
-day of the tentacle
-monkey island 1 or 2
-loom

these are original PC games and can still be bought as a compilation from lucasarts. In order to play those on your PPC you'll need to install PocketSCUMM (http://www.scummvm.com/downloads.php) on your PPC, then copy the game files to your pocketpc and off you go!! Saving is possible, no violence, hours of fun and great storylines. (if you like adventure games)

Wanna see some screenshots of the games? check here (http://www.scummvm.com/screenshots.php)

The game compilations can be found here (http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/adventure/) and here (http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/monkey/)

This is for purchase from lucasarts' own site, but with a little bit of looking around you should be able to find some of these games in a compilation in the bargain bins of your local PC store aswell.

A side note: Monkey Island 3 (The Curse of Monkey Island) cannot be played on ppc.

You know, it's awful arrogant to choose "GOD" as your name in the forums, Deus. especially considering you're not even a Pocket PC Magi yet :) .

It sounds like you might enjoy The Emperor's Mahjong by Hexacto. It has 70 levels; you start out as a Peasant and as you finish each layout you gradually become an Emperor. This game kept me busy in my spare minutes for a good 3 months. (I finally beat it about two weeks ago. Yay!)
