Most of these devices are available today with the exception of the iPAQ h1930 and the Gateway and JVC models.

This list is not meant to be comprehensive nor exhaustive, but to give you an overview to help you narrow down the field. This also doesn't include any converged devices.

It's got to be the 2200.

I love the form factor the dual slots and bluetooth. :)

But I'll have to wait to the accessories start coming. I'm not buying until a good case comes along.

Daniel

You might want to mention that the JVC will have optional flip-up screen covers, as I understand it. That's important to Jornada owners or former owners who hate the idea of bulking up a PDA with a case.

I know it's Dire Straits, but that's Sting on a guest vocal.

That reminds me. We need a "pedant" smiley. Like, a smiley wearing a mortarboard, possibly with glasses and a beard.

('Cause I know how much you love it when people suggest we need new smileys! As if we DON'T ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH!)

Actually Crystal is right: Sting did sing the "I want my MTV" part in the Dire Straits song!

Why does the 2210 only have ~3.8 flash rom?

Why does the 2210 only have ~3.8 flash rom?
Dunno but it is annoying as heck. I miss my old 20MB file store from the 3900. Still, a minor issue compared to having dual slots. :)

How could they work something out? Replace your entire ROM chip?

Go get him, Crystal. Don't see him as the boss, just see him as Mr Know-it-all! ;)

You should download NaDa V. 0.5 instead. It gives even more and asks even less.

For accuracy, you might want to include "removable battery" in the Dell X5 listing.

Yes let's please post all 2200 accessories available. Can't find a case either. When will Vaja, Proporta, et. al have one? Or maybe some cover that hooks into the back holes...

Curse for opening my big mouth.

So here's the story of my day!!!

1 - Went to local large town high street shops.
2 - Went into Dixons (UK largest Electrical Retailer) looking for new TV
3 - Saw that they had a 15" TFT TV I wanted (At £500)
4 - Saw they had a 2210 behind the counter
5 - Thought hmmm.... I'll have a look at it see what the big deal is...But thought I'd not guy one for a couple of months.
6 - Loved the form factor. Loved the screen. Loved the thing.
7 - Could feel my 3970 with PC-Card & Wireless Lan card weighing my pocket down.
8 - Thought bugger it!!! 8O

So from being first in this thread and saying!
But I'll have to wait to the accessories start coming. I'm not buying until a good case comes along

I'm now the owner of a TFT Screen TV and a IPAQ 2210. And I'm £900 down. 8O 8O 8O 8O :D

The spec list that you gave for the JVC unitls 'might' be slightly off. I have no way to confirm this, however if you go to InfoSync World, you can look at their article about these units. Like I said... take it with a grain of salt.

Yes, but the *important* thing is that you are two toys up.

Dixons.......? :? Generally I try but don't buy there (love the overpricing and extended warranty pushes :| ). Saying that a friend of mine today picked up a Toshiba 740 going pretty cheap.

I’m still waiting on my Axim 2003 upgrade to come though – IF they have fixed the performance problems…… :?

The Asus MyPal A620 isn't on the list - a review of it was posted a few weeks ago here, as I recall. Might be good to add.

1 - I NEEDED the TFT TV Screen (Honest!). Our portable broke  and it just didn't make sense to go for a CRT when the TFT saves so much space. At least that's what I told the wife. :D

2 - My IPAQ is not a toy. It's a serious work tool. I use it daily and my job requires that have knowledge of the latest tech stuff. The fact that all my favorite games are the first thing I install is not the point. Again that's what I told the wife (or will if she see's the credit card bill 8O )

As for Dixons. I normally steer completely away from and PC World (don't get me started on my Digital Camera Story at PCW 8O ). But checked the prices at all the usual suspects (before I went out) and seen that the prices were roughly the same. In fact I saved because I didn't have to be delivery.

Dixons (http://www.dixons.co.uk/store/martprd.dll/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1285592869.1058213180@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadcijiigkkdcefecfgmdffgdfgj.0&chain=Dixons&channel=WEB&browserName=navigator&browserVersion=7&platform=pc&firstrun=yes&page=Home&timestamp=21:7:13&page=Home&chain=Dixons&channel=WEB&timestamp=21:7:13&browserName=navigator&browserVersion=7&platform=pc) is one of the biggest UK electronic retailers. Think Circuit City/Best Buy/etc.

The Dixon group are the largest Electrical retail's in Europe.

My PC World camera story is...

I need to buy a Point-n-Shoot Digital Camera for work (cheap and needed for low quality pictures). So I turn up at my local PC World and see one that's perfect for the job. (Can't even remember the type) But it used a rechargeable battery. So I ask to look at the camera and use it. The assistant tries for about 10 minutes to get a battery into the camera. She Failed. She goes off to find her boss who tells her that there's a fully charge battery on his desk. Off she goes and then finds that her boss sold it the pervious day. 8O

So she goes to find a machine from stock to get the battery. She's lost her keys and her boss has now gone to lunch. So I said "Let me take it with me and I'll return it if I'm not happy with it". So I hand over my 200 pounds planning to take it home charge it try it and then take it back if the quality is junk. I get the assistant to sign the back of the receipt to prove that she's accepted the terms.

So I do that it really a piece of :olympic: CLASS RUBISH. But I couldn't go back to the store because by the time it was charged and working the shop was closed (It was a Sunday). So I go back the following Sunday (I worked away for the week).

I look for the same assistant but she's not there so I speak to her boss. And it turns out she'd been fired for being :duh: . So I ask for my refund and he points me to the T&C on the back of the receipt. I point him to the additions I added to the bottom that she had signed. But no luck. So I ask to see the manager. But he works on a Monday to Saturday. So I leave the store and phone the manager the following day. He would fly with it. So I phone PC World's CS. The same again.

Finally I had to get on the phone to the PC World's MD. Who finally agrees to give me a refund. I happened to have to go into the same PC World about a month later to buy a Ink Cartridge when I was in the middle of printing a important report for work. The "Boss" was stuck working on a till (he served me) and he gave me the most :really mad: look so I did the :alfdance: (I didn't really but I just like that smiley)

So since then I've never been back to PC World. But I was happy with the 2210 purchase from Dixons because normally they add about 30% on top for just being in the high street. But I couldn't find a mail order firm in the UK Cheaper.

Regards,
Daniel

Ah! I thought you were talking about PC World magazine. I was thinking you had identified major problems with their reviews and my antennas went up. Your story was one I think many of us have experienced in dealing with incompetent retailers (although I have no experience with PC World or Dixons, having never heard of them until now). It's incredibly frustrating. But it feels good to post the story on the Web to warn others.
