It's interesting to see how far, PPC has evolved.
And of course some of the thing that has been predicted about PPC still hasn't been realized. Namely global domination, and half decent built in office apps.

but rereading the talk could be a sobering reminder how wild argument about PDA can be.

Case in point, here's the latest US retail weekly share report from NPD Intelect (the latest report is for mid-September):

Palm brand: 52%
Handspring: 27%
Sony Clie: 11%
Compaq iPaq: 5%
HP Jornada: 3%
Casio Cassiopeia: 0.3%

It’s also our assumption that the business/enterprise market isn’t as price sensitive. They are focused on the total cost of ownership, the ROI and the capabilities to really improve productivity and competitiveness. With all due respect to the NDP market share numbers quoted earlier let me take another forward looking shot at this. IDC just issued a report where they interviewed corp customers to ask about their device plans. Full article at:

Foo is making prediction about 2002
Ya gotta hand it to him some of the item comes pretty close. (not that every other joe hasn't been saying the same thing, but he put it together)

The transition to OS 5 will not be quite as smooth as Palm users may have wanted, but it will be successful. The next generation OS will draw a wave of new developers (not just Palm developers) to the new platform. Look for incredible new applications (and Games) to rock your world!

By Q4 of 2002, or Q1 of 2003, Handspring finally gives up the ghost. Handspring either goes bankrupt, or is acquired by a mobile phone maker such as Samsung or Nokia, for its intellectual property. Hawkins goes back to Palm to head the hardware division.

Casio leaves the field
IPaq continues to whoop ass!

(wireless and smartphones are still the dark horse, or is it pony?)

More rumblings of PPC surpassing PalmOS by 2005
(well well, if that wasn't the day everybody dares to make bold prediction)

Er...just out of curiosity, what is "old flambee"? An elderly, tricky bee?

Interesting link, though...thanks for posting it. Glad to see that Foo was wrong about Pocket PC growth in 2002... 8)

Ah... for some reason, I thought that was spelled with only one e and an accent. Ah well. That's the third new thing I've learned today.

The first two were how to tie my shoes and how to tell time.

I need :helpme:
