Its a DECENT price for the 1910, considering its lack of features compared to the 1940. Costco has the 1910 for $229.00 currently.

It's always tough to beat Costco, that's for sure.

I have had mine for a couple days now and am enjoying it immensely. I am sure some little bugs my crop up, but so far I have seen no biggies. It seems pretty fast except when powering it up. Seems like it takes a extra second or so for the Today screen to become visible but it's not a problem. Start menu seems to take a bit, but I wonder if that's just an animation delay or something? Sometimes I wish you can turn some of these features off like you can on a desktop. Anyway, the device IS faster than my e740 so I am not complaining about these niggly things! :D
Oh and both the OS picture viewer and HP's picture viewer (similar to the 5400's viewer) are on the rom image. Amazingly enough, there does not seem to be any new Themes on the rom. Just the standard theme they have been using since last October or so (that bliss theme). Where's spiral? I got to go steal it off of a 2215! ;)

MobilePlanet = Full retail price = I can get a much better deal someplace else. :byebye:

I have NEVER seen better prices on the internet. Sure, if you buy something on ebay thats REALLY old you can (unless it's an antique). Usually the prices I do see that sound like a good deal are not a good deal by the time you add insurance and shipping charges. You don't pay for insurance on new Pocket PC's you order? Glad I ain't you! :D I always pay insurance on things like these. Can never be too careful and brown has a rough time with delicate electronics! :)

For those that are in California, Fry's has both the 1940 and the 5550 in stock. (At least in their store in Costa Mesa.) Of course all things being equal, I aways would support companies like Mobile Planet since they support our "community". However, I thought I'll let people know about other sources.

Are there benchmarks anywhere that compare the performance of all 3 new Ipaqs? I'm quite curious to see how they perform.

(These scores are pretty good indicators for the device in total. If Quake was good enough for the PC market to benchmark on, no reason it's not good enough for the PPC. All scores are taken from demo1, portrait mode, default settings, for those who are wondeirng.)

Wow, the Samsung CPU is zippy, it's only .7 fps behind the 2215/2210. What's the bus speed of the Samsung? Also, what bus speed does the 221x have? I'm so confused about that... Jason's review said 100 Mhz in one place and 200 Mhz in another.

I think I read the samsung chip in the 1930/40 has a 133mHz Bus while the chip in the 2200 has a 200 MHz bus. I am sure I will be corrected by one of the more knowledgable members if I have got this wrong.

If that's correct, it's amazing how Samsung can get that much performance from that little bandwidth compared to the Xscale in the 221x. Go Samsung!

Now I'm thinking that the Samsung CPU would be great in the 221x. More battery life with just about as much as power as an Xscale. Mmmmmm... :)

Yes, the Samsung chip is sounding pretty impressive. I'd like to see if the ATI graphic chip in the 5555 helps it beat the other two new Ipaqs.

Regarding bus speed. Here is what I've been able to decipher-- take it with a grain of salt, I'm not sure I understand it all.

2210/15 - 400 MHz Xscale - 200 Mhz internal bus - 100 Mhz. Memory Bus
1930/40 - 266 MHz Samsung - 133 Mhz Internal bus - 133 Mhz Memory Bus

If this is true, then the Samsung Memory is actually running faster than the Xscale and would partially explain the lower clocked chip keeping up in any memory intesive benchmark.

The 1930 has a 203MHz (or is it 206?) chip, not 266 like its big brother. I don't know what the memory speed is. May be 100.

The ATI chip is awful, take a look at the scores of the e750 compared to any other PXA255 device. Same with MediaQ, both slow down devices in all programs I've seen.

That's funny. My 5555 came with Spiral. I don't particularly like it... but at least it's there. A long time ago, I'd created my own Today theme, using... uh... some program I can't remember right now... anyway, that theme works just fine on my new 5555.

I've heard others asking for themes for WM2003, and that made me wonder... is anyone actually having problems using the themes that were made for PPC2002?

I pre-orderd a 5555 for US$599.99 at Amazon on 2 June 2003. They still don't know when they will receive stock for sure. That is annoying when I just played with a demo unit at CompUSA where they had 10+ on the shelf and MobilePlanet is shipping them too. My order status last said they expected the product to be "released" (I guess meaning shipped to Amazon) on 13 July 2003 (a Sunday?). The last rep. I emailed said if it did arrive then, it would ship to me on the 14th and I had chosen "super saver shipping" to save money that would take 3-7 bus. days. The whole thing reminded me too much of my multi-month wait three years ago to get an iPAQ, when MobilePlanet kept sliding the date--its probably not that bad, I just hate not knowing. A coworker that wants to buy my old 3650 researched and found a pretty good deal for me, so I cancelled my Amazon pre-order today....

...and ordered a 5555 and an HP printer ink cartridge, shipped FedEx ground for a total of $615 from HP Shopping. That was using a 10% off coupon (see techbargains.com) and the ink cartridge special made shipping free (normally a whoppin US$50+).
