View Full Version : Mini thumb keyboards for the 2210/15?

I thought I asked about this before, but cannot find the thread where I asked it. Sorry if you see the question twice.

I have read here that the Stowaway keyboard for IPAQs will work with the 2210/15, if it has the adapter that will fit the 3800, 3900, and 5400 series.

How about the small mini thumb keyboards you slide on the bottom end of the PDA? If one is advertised as being suitable for 3800, 3900, 5400, does that mean it will also fit the 2210/15?

There are various models available on E-Bay and elsewhere. They all say that they will fit the 3 models above, but I guess the 2200 series is still to new.

I guess if the same Stowaway keyboard will fit, they must have the same connector. But I don't know if there is another factor for the mini thumb keyboards, in that they slide over the end of the PDA, so the size and shape of the bottom of the unit might be important for a fit.

Anyone tried it yet?

I guess HP is just coming out with a new one for the 5400 etc. now, or it will be out soon, and it includes a screen cover. I haven't seen those in stores yet, which still carry HP's older design.

For those who have seen the last one mentioned, even a prototype model, another unrelated question--Can the screen saver be used separately from the mini keyboard, or are they attached?

Thank you.

The 22xx apparently has the same connector as the 38/39/54/55xx lines. Only difference is the former has a flat bottom and the latter have rounded bottoms.

The HP minikeyboards should work as they have flat tops and only the connector actually contacts the 38/39/54/55xx models (afaik). Other models of keyboards (ie, the SnapNTypes) are curved to fit the earlier models.

Cover and keyboard are attached. The screen protector part of the cover can be removed but you still have the rest of the unit (length of iPaq + length of keyboard) to deal with.

Thank you.

You're welcome! :)

The HP slim keyboard (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/product_detail/product_detail_view.jsp?product_code=312391-001&cat_level=3) is available. Pocketnow has done a review of it (http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=259).

P.S. Post #2500!

Whoops, I thought the older keyboard did sit flush with the bottom of the iPaq. Or is there another brand/model I'm thinking of?

Wow... I'll bet that pissed off some wireless readers! ;) Seriously, you don't have to post a photo in that high a resolution...

I'm pretty sure that none of the previously-released thumb keyboards for the iPAQs will fit the new h2200 series. The connectors are the same, but the keyboards are designed to fit a certain form factor, which the h2200 series does not have. I have seen some thumb keyboards for Palms which clip to the bottom edge, but I don't recall seeing one for iPAQs that mounts that way.

No the Thumboard from Compaq does not fit. The connector on the keyboard is the same but off alignment by about 1/4 of an inch. With no real way to modify either. :(

Is there a Keyboard coming for the 2200 series? Or has anybody tried that IPAQ one pictured to see if it will Fit?

Scarpad,

See my double posts. I was refering to the the two keyboards pictured. Sorry I wasn't more clear...and for the double post. :D

Check out the 8th picture down. <looking at the bottom of the iPAQs> See how the 5400's connector is toward the top, making room for the sleeve connector. You can also see how the 2200 is toward the bottom.

Using that keyboard with my 2200 is one of the first thing I tried. :D

Their (PocketNow's) pic, not mine. It isn't nearly that big on their site. If the forums had an option to resize, I would've.

They do -- it's called HTML.

True, but that's not the point. It will still help avoid the scrolling issues (although you'd probably want to make it even smaller for a mobile device).

The only way to do it otherwise, I think, would be to resize it yourself and put it up on your own Web site. If ctmagnus can't do that, I think I gave him the next best alternative.

Good point.... I saw mobile and just thought about bandwidth. Oh well.

BTW, I love posting from my 2215!!! 8) The haters can say what they want, but i love this device!

Whoops, I've been using the phpbb code for everything  . I didn't know you could do HTML in the posts (ignore the first checkbox under this box if you reply to this post  ) Anywho, mine's just a tad bit wider than the width of the PIE browser now. So browsing this thread should be friendlier for all.
