The 3650 paired with my iPAQ 2215 kept me up to date on all of the happenings at this site and elsewhere when I was out of town this past week. So much so that between Sunday afternoon and Thursday afternoon upon returning I burned through a healthy 15MB of data over GPRS! 8O The actual bit count was probably higher but T-Mobile does some compressing to both enhance speed and keep traffic down.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030704-freenokia3650.gif" /><br /><br />They have various plans and deals with AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile and prices range from free to $49.95. I thought that T-mobiel was still offering the unlimited gprs for 19.99 per month. I found out about it at pda.buzz. Have you checked to see that so that you arent going over your limit???????????

Unfortunately, the plans require new service activation. I hate that... I already have T-Mobile and don't want to switch carriers. The Nokia 3650 is a cool phone though.

Assuming that you're beyond the 1st year commitment, isn't it true that you can take advantage of these deals if you're willing to recommit (to your current plan) for another year? I haven't done this myself, but I seem to remember hearing this could be done.

I don't think Amazon supports renewals, although you do get a bit of a discount if you've been a T-Mobile subscriber for some time if you call T-Mobile.

PDABuzz? We had that here at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=121029 on the front page within minutes of T-Mobile launching it.

Yea, I am on that plan and really don't care much about bits anymore but it was still interesting to see how much data I transferred during those 4 days. I am pretty sure had I still been on the $20/10MB plan, I wouldn't have checked email as often.

Ah, I'm pretty sure you're right!! At the very least, I *think* the T-Mobile rebate ($100 for the 3650) could apply if you ask them.

Still waiting for AT&T Wireless to come through with the $20 unlimited GRPS plan. Apparently they have an unpublicized $99 unlimited plan, but that's way too much.

I can't wait until number portability commoditizes cell phone providers. Come on November 24... :D

Just be careful and selective if you intend to use this phone with a BT headset as well. The Jabra will work but you have to get one that is specific to this Nokia phone as we have a couple customers that have purchased the standard Jabra Freespeak and they do not work together!

If you are looking for features like these on the 3650 in a more compact size may i suggest you look at the Sony t610

I have been checking Amazon.com every few days since T-Mobile announced their unlimited GPRS plan. So far, I've yet to find out how I can order both a Bluetooth phone (either the Nokia or the T68i) from Amazon and get the $29.99 plan (no voice, just minutes), or even the $19.99 plan that requires a voice plan. I just checked again, and the Nokia phone is $50 and the only "unlimited" option is something called "T-zones" for $9.99.

T-Mobile's web site has the correct plan options, but they don't offer the T68i anymore and the Nokia is $199! 8O

I have been dreaming of a Bluetooth phone for a great price for months - could someone please show me how to do this? I'm usually a lot better at troubleshooting stuff like this...

FYI, ATT will be releasing the Sony Ericsson p800 within the next month and price wise will compete with the 3650 so im told. The siemens s56 was just released that has BT also but I have yet to test it out. The retail on that is 149.99 but no rebates :) (nice phone though) go to ppcw.net for "how to's" for BT I have always found that website helpful

cheers

SonyEricsson T68i has officially been discontinued. It really is too bad, since it was an extremely good deal if you needed BT on your phone.

3650 is a good phone; however, I checked out a demo, and I thought it was too big for my liking. I also found out that the ringtones are too low, and memory space is too low, even with the MMC because of Realone Player.

 You know, I really wanted the T68i. It's small. The 3650 is just too big.

I don't know how to go about the $30 dollar data only plan, but if you choose a voice plan, you can do what many of us did and that is to add-on the $20 unlimited GPRS via T-Mobile customer service.

I appreciate the advice, but since I use my cell phone less than 5 minutes a month (I'm essentially looking for a wireless data modem for my Axim that can be used for voice in emergencies), I really want the $29.99 unlimited GPRS with pay-as-you-go voice. I'm beginning to think Amazon isn't ever going to offer the T-Mobile Internet plans, which is a real bummer, since the cheapest Bluetooth option at that point is an unlocked T68i for around $150 on Ebay.

It's just a bummer to see Ed post "Free Nokia 3635 at Amazon.com", hear him talk about how wonderful the unlimited GPRS T-Mobile plan is, and then find out that the free phone and the unlimited plan don't appear to go together.

I was looking at getting this phone at amazon with the unlimited internet access and wasn't sure if the option is available from them. I see in service options they have the following
• t-zones Pro Unlimited MB (info)
Price per month: $9.99
select items

• T-Mobile Unlimited Data (info)
Price per month: $19.99
select items

• T-Mobile Unlimited Data VPN (info)
Price per month: $19.99

What is the difference between these, and is the T-mobile unlimited data the one I'm looking for? I'm very new to all this (it will be my first cell phone) and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have the RF capabilities improved in the 610 from the T68 series?

T-Zones is WAP access (the web browser on your screen). The other two will allow you to hook up a PDA or Laptop to your phone and use it as a modem.

I am (im)patiently waiting for the SE T610 to be released officially by T-Mobile in the US. It looks like such a cool phone! But I'm not going to get it now and spend $800-900 to upgrade phones for my husband and myself. Hurry up T-Mobile and start selling the phone with the subsidized prices!!

You can get a new T68i (ATT, T-mobile, etc) on eBay for around $150 or so. For $20 you can have it unlocked so you can use it with your existing SIM card and provider, and of course any other provider anywhere in the world

I missed the boat on getting a free T68i a few months ago and I went this route. I really like the small size of the T68i and its great with the new 2215.

I could really use some help with a recommendation on a good BT phone.

I've read good things on this site (and others) regarding the T68i and the 3650. The 3650 just seems to big for me. I like to carry my phone in my pant's pocket. Several salespeople have suggested that the T68i is not as good as the Nokia's when the signal is weak. I also tend to like the Nokia 6310i.

My other hesitation is I don't really know anyone around me (NW suburbs of Chicago) who uses T-Mobile, so the only thing I have to go on in terms of coverage is salespeoples' word. I've been a loyal Sprint Customer for 5+ years, but am just getting tired of waiting for BT.

Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated.

Have you tried actually holding the 3650? It looks big in photos, but it's actually pretty small in reality. It's only slightly bigger (wider?) than the Nokia 6310.

For me, it was actually larger than I had expected, but I got over it quick because it's actually pretty light and it feels much more natural to talk into than my previous T68.

BTW, what I love most about this phone though is the screen. This screen is beautifully backlit like the current PPCs but it's viewability without the lighting is even better than the old reflectives PPCs. I sure hope this is the next wave of portable screen technology (at least until OLEDs).

I'm quite sure it's not OLED (see Phone Scoop (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=199)'s description), but just another transflective display. Perhaps they tweaked the reflectivity a bit to come up with a better compromise?

Right. I was saying I was hoping that the next PDAs would use the same screen technology as the 3650, at least until the OLEDs came out.

As for the technology they do use, the lighting is definitely behind the screen, but somehow they found a way to not compromise visibility when the backlight goes out (it is indeed better than the old 36/37/38xx reflective screens)!

Yes I have held the 3650 (although I haven't put on in my pocket). The second or third time I held it, it really didn't seem as big as I originally thought. I suppose that lately my phones have been getting smaller and smaller, and this will definitely buck the trend.

The other thing I have a hard time getting used to is the camera lens on the back of the phone. I really have no use for a camera in a phone, and it just looks silly to me.

I suppose I should add that I'm interested in BT mainly for data connectivity to my Axim, as opposed to for a wireless headset.

If you all recommend this phone over the T68i or 6310i, I'll take another look. Anyone have an experience with T-mobile in the Chicagoland area, especially NW suburbs?

Mike

Really!? Did you hold it next to your 3870? I'll have to go look at the 3650 again, then.

Oh no question about it. I still have my 3870 and the unlit display on my Nokia 3650 is far easier to read than the 3870 (which is much easier to read than my iPaq2215). Let me know when you take another look. I'd be interested in hearing your reaction as well.
