View Full Version : Anyone own 22xx & 38xx/39xx/54xx iPAQs?

I'm thinking about trying to make my own charging/syncing cable set for to allow my 2215 to communicate with my desktop machine, Motorola StarTAC phone, and Magellan SportTrak Pro GPS unit, powered (& charged) by either wall outlet or cigarette lighter. I know you can buy similar products, but I haven't seen anything sufficiently versatile and small to warrant the $60 price tags I've seen. Plus, I like dinking around with wiring. :D

So my question is: is the 2215's cradle connecter (at the bottom) the same as the 38xx/39xx/54xx iPAQs? I don't really care about pinouts or anything, I just need to know about physical connections. Gomadic (http://www.gomadic.com) has some connectors that could be really helpful, but only for the other models.

Any comments on the project (potential problems, how I plan to do it, etc.) are welcome too.

I have a 2210 and 3870 ... cables seem to be compatible. Weird thing though:

I have a [really really crappy] charge-n-sync cable that has a toggle switch on it: sync mode and charge mode. For some reason, the CHARGE mode ALSO lets me sync at the same time as charging on the 2210. The 3870 does NOT do that. Perhaps they changed the pins a bit.

Someone was testing out the BenQ (or something like that) videogame pad and they said the connectors on the bottom of the 2215 are a bit towards the back than in 39xx. Hope that helps. If you need more info on this, check it out at discussion.brighthand.com

Since the gamepad works, I'm guessing the data pins are the same, at least. That's good to know.

Shah120, are you able to charge via USB, or is it just through the power end of your cable?

Anyone happen to have a good source for tech specs? A full pinout for the 22xx would be fantastic. 8)
