As I sit here working on the subscriber services text write-up (the "sell job" as it were), I'm eating a bowl of Cheery Cheesecake ice cream. Words cannot describe how YUMMY this ice cream is. I had an intolerance to all dairy for about two decades, but last year when I discovered I could eat dairy products again, one of the things I realized I missed the most was ice cream. Mmm.
What's your favourite kind of ice cream? No poll - freeform...

Chocolate has to be my *favorite*. But there are others that are quite good too... Mint Chocolate Chip, Butter Pecan, Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter & Chocolate, Spumoni, Cinnamon...
Vanilla is good, but I prefer it *with* something else. Like hot fudge and a brownie. ;)

We just got a Cold Stone Creamery here -- one of those places that mixes various things into the ice cream. I like vanilla with raspberries mixed in.
Another store here here likes cutesy names for their flavors and they used to have something called Kiwi Herman that was really good, especially in a brownie waffle cone.
I wish I hadn't started thinking about this. I'll have to go check the freezer now.

Ditto on both points. You missed cookies 'n' cream, btw. I'm not as much of a butter pecan fan, though.
(Un)fortunately, there's a Haagen-Dazs place on our way back from many lunch places on Broadway. This week it was utterly irresistible, as it was hitting mid-90s every day.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip from Hagen Daaz...can't beat that.
2nd favorite would have to be Pineapple Coconut from the same ;)

Godiva milk chocolate.
Unfortunately, I am now dairy-intolerant. Maybe I can have ice cream in a few decades? :bawl:

Haagen-Dazs used to have this vanilla ice cream with raspberry sorbet swirled in, but they don't make it anymore. :mecry:
I'm a huge fan of Dreamery Tiramisu ice cream. Or H-D chocolate chocolate chip, or any fruit sorbet. Mmmm.

First and foremost...vanilla rules :rock on dude!: ...it just accessorizes so nicely.
But Cookie Dough and Mint Chocolate Chip come close.

Usually it's Ben and Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar but the old Flavor Wavy Gravy (which I miss) was a close second.
During the summer times, I often opt for something of a fruity nature, like a lemon sorbet or strawberry and cream.

I'm going with Vanilla Bean (has to have the bean specks) with a thick, chewy fudge brownie.
Either that or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
Too bad I'm stuck at work and can't get to the store... :bawl:

It was German Chocolate Cake, bought from a Chinese Noodle Soup restaurant in San Jose. I don't even know if they're still there, though.
My favorite parlor ice cream was Baskin Robbins Chocolate Almond (like Rocky Road, but without the marshmallows). They don't seem to have that any more, though.
My favorite grocery store ice cream is probably Dreyer's or Breyer's Rocky Road (I forget which one).
Generally, I'm not big on POIC (Plain Old Ice Cream). It has to have something crunchy in it. It also has to be in a sugar cone; no cake cones for me.
If I'm looking for something cool and fruity, though, I'll have a sherbet -- rainbow, lime, pineapple, orange or raspberry.

I'm in the same boat - but the one I miss is their "Caramel Cone Crunch" or something like that. It was Caramel ice cream with sugar cone pieces mixed in covered with chocolate... I haven't had a better ice cream. I hate haagen-daz for discontinuing that flavor.
I console myself with cookies 'n' cream, Mint chocolate chip, and strawberry. Sometimes I go for Coffee... which is real nice.

Do you know how hard it is to find someone who likes this?
Marry me. :ppclove:
But yes, any flavor that has chocolate as the base is GREAT! You missed Rocky Road. :razzing:

On that rocky road theme, how about heavenly hash? That stuff is good, depending on the maker.
Anyone heard of Ben n Jerry Half Baked? My niece claims it's the best, but I have yet to try it.
As for me, my favorite comes from a local place called Shakes. All their ice cream is blended with custard, which makes it oh so smooth. Throw in some hot fudge brownie and I'm satiated.

I'm a diabetic so I can't divulge in the sensual delicatacy of Ice Cream too much, but when I do:
Breyers Vanilla Bean
IMO, doesn't get any better than that.

Kemp's Chocolate Double Fudge Cow Tracks. If it where possible to have to much chocolate this would be it. Thankfully, there is no such thing as too much chocolate  .
Close second would be Eddy's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

You mean some people actually go to Columbus, Ohio, by choice? (Before anybody gets too offended, realize that Columbus is home to Ohio State University -- oops, the Ohio State University. GO BLUE! A Buckeye is a just nut.)
Steve
Peter's vanilla.
Are they still in business?
It was just like homemade icecream.

I visited there for the reason of the school. I noticed that the letterhead I got said "THE Ohio State University". That's just weird.

Was the "THE" actually capitalized on the letterhead? My guess is that perhaps Ohio only has one state university (and maybe one campus), so they want to emphasize that.
California, for example, has two university systems (not counting community colleges) -- the University of California system (the "better" one) and the California State system (the "lesser" one).

Well, the whole school name was capitalized. But having the "The" in there is still weird. Whatever the reason. ;)
I believe there's an "Ohio University" as well as "The Ohio State University"
And then Miami University, which is not in Miami...

Moose Tracks (I think you can only get this in Alaska)
Just had some Mayfield (http://www.mayfielddairy.com/) Moose Tracks after lunch today. Good stuff! (And Tennessee is most definately not Alaska...at least I hope you don't have this kind of humidity!)
By the way, my preference is pistachio ice cream. My parents used to make some homemade from a local dairy that sold a mix, throw in some pistachio pudding mix, and WOW! Blue Bell's version is pretty good, but I sure miss the homemade stuff.

No Alaska does not have nearly the humidity of TN. Right now was are super dry. I wish it would rain, the fire danger is way too high.

I've seen it (and maybe had it) in California. I can't remember the company's name, but they had a whole set of arctic-themed ice creams. It might have been a Michigan-based company (I'm from Michigan, so that would have stood out). I don't think it was Hershey Creamery (http://www.hersheyphilbin.com/HCC2.html), even though they have a similar line.
Besides Moose Tracks, I think they made Yukon Gold, Muddy Snowshoes and so on.

Steve,
I went Googling and found Moose Tracks (http://www.moosetracks.com) as a brand by Denali Flavors, Inc. It turns out the "Moose Tracks" brand is licensed to dairies around the country. A quick step over to the freezer shows that my package of Moose Tracks from Mayfield does indeed say it's licensed from Denali. :scatter:
I guess the flavors you mentioned are no longer available, :boohoo: but I saw them in the www.moosetracks.com/flavors.html]google (http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache:jjTH-imm4m4J:[url) cached version[/url] of the site.

Good memory, Steve! I looked at the contact info on the moosetracks website and it lists Wayland, MI as the home base for Denali.

Thanks, but it wasn't good enough. Not only did I forget the name, but I couldn't find it in two Google searches. :-(
If I'd searched on "moose tracks" "ice cream", I would have found it. I tried searching on moose tracks yukon gold muddy and moose tracks yukon ice cream. I guess the "yukon" messed it up.
Thanks for finding Denali; that was the company.

You were on the right track. I searched for "Yukon Gold" "Muddy Snowshoes" or at least thought I did. I re-did the search today on Google and nothing showed up. Odd. I'm going to have to check my history file tonight and see what I typed in. Anyway, it all sounds delicious! :D
