Roderick assures me there's a site at this URL, but it's either down right now or very, very slow to load.

unfortunatley the 2215 will cost you a mere $617 in th UK. A mere 55% more than the standard US price.

It works perfectly for me, but I've visited it before. You might have to go through the HP homepage to get to it correctly, as it requires you to choose what kind of institution you're in, what contract you're under, what state, etc.

Thanks. Once I went through the store to find it the site worked perfectly.
Wow, great price. Might be able to justify going up to the 2210 from the 1940 now, actually save $6. :-)

Yes, the site is working, but it's probably best to go through www.hp.com instead of the posted link. This deal is *really* sweet, but it doesn't really soften the blow of my $40k annual tuition. I didn't get to spend much time at the site even though I was able to add the H2210 to my shopping cart for $293.00. What I really want to know is:
1) How do they verify that the shopper is a qualifying US student?
2) What prevents me from buying this product in huge quantities and offloading them on eBay?
Poqeteer, WOW! Do you date back to the Washington origins or when Poqet was sold to Fujitsu? I still have my Poqet and must say it was almost twenty (?) years before its time. Although it is no match for the PPC - back in the day it was about ten percent of the size of the smallest laptop AND to this day, still has the best keyboard on a mobile device. NICE WORK!

I don't know for #1, but my guess is they only let you order 1 unless you call them directly and use an institutional purchase order or something. And one's conscience is the other preventative component. ;)
Some people have mentioned receiving emails asking what school they attend.

What is the difference between a 2210 and a 2215? Is it just one of those reseller issues, like the Jornada 567 v. 568? Luckily as an employee (and graduate student) of a university I should be able to atke advantage of this! Could be bye-bye for my trusty Jornada.

No, it is for students of higher ed as well. This is very common and is often even offered by the manufacturers direct through college book stores.
As a college student for the last 7 years I have taken advantage of this site and it perfectly fine. HP does it. Microsoft does it (through distributors). Other software and hardware vendors do this as well and is almost always open to college students.

I'm starting college in September, does that make me able to get it at this price, or would it only be once I actually start school?
Also I don't know if I'd even want to, cause I'm really nervous about ordering a PPC online, after how many times I had to take my 3950 back for a new unit.

What did I do wrong, I just went through the site normally, went to hpshopping.com, selected handhelds then the 2215. it was $399 still. So i saw a link for an academic program on the left. I clicked signed up, signed up as a student made a username and came back to this page. The price is now $359 which is better but not what everyone else is getting.
Is there some other place to go or do u have to be a teacher for it to be $293

btw, people here seem to be bothered by this deal. we're not ripping them off; the idea is that if teachers get a piece of software or hardware it'll kinda be forced on the students. This is the case with MS Office - they practically give it away educationally, and so if a liberal arts prof accepts electronic submission, they often want it in doc format, locking in students. The students, too, can get it cheap, but MS is counting on locking them in for a lifetime of Office since the poor puny consumer won't want to learn to use StarOffice. HP is counting on a new generation of iPaq addicts .
Of course, the CS department at my school runs everything on Linux, and your submissions must compile and run on linux to get credit.

do the iPAQ h1945 or the iPAQ 2215 come with PPC 2003?
Nope. 2215 ships with a proprietary "CE 4.1" system, which is now currently supported by two dozen developers. I would strongly dissuade people from purchasing the device, however, as HP decided to cannibalize the iPAQ name by releasing the unit with several uniquely hideous faults, including a "backreflective" screen (a new technology that, in approximately 30% of the units produced, can actually malfunction and cause eye damage due to misdirected LCD styrorays.) Additionally, there have been reports that the 2215's Compactflash card slots bites off people's fingers - as well as other "outlying parts."
The 1945, on the other hand, runs MS-DOS.

I used an educational discount years ago (while I was doing my Computer Science undergrad work) to obtain a pda. I remember they had me sign a form indicating I was not buying it for the purpose of reselling it, but that I would be using it. Even if I was a current student it wouldn't help me as they quoted the 5550 at US$636 (I'm still crossing my fingers that my US$599 Amazon pre-order will come through--they tell me that's the price I'll get since that's what they had listed when I placed the order on June 2).
The waiting game reminds me too much of my H3650 purchase (took nearly 3 months) in 2000.

Am I the only one who is getting the price to come up as $267? Also, is there a limit to how many you can buy? I am a student at Hawaii Pacific University, and both of my parents are public school teachers. Would it work if I ordered 2, or are you limited to one purchase per year as is the case with the Apple educational discount?
Finally, are there any forms I need to fax them to confirm my enrollment? When I registered at Edu.com, I had to send in a copy of my campus ID and letter of acceptance.

I also got the lower price. See my link to the anandtech thread for details; in short, you go by state to the location of your school, and pick a contract group your school is a member of. Some of them get better rates than the general hp discount if they negotiated a specific discount (for example, many MA schools are in Mass. Higher Ed. Consortium, which gets the lower price).

I am from UK but working in US summer camp with lots of US Students. Can someone explain what information I need my US friends to have so I can get them to buy a 2200 for me cheaper :-)
I will spend the saved $100 on a Wi-Fi CF and extra battery.
Thanks.

$293, which is much cheaper than the $399 MSRP that the rest of the world will be paying
Jason, you probably mean the rest of US. Some part of the rest of the world, like Europe, starts at about $600 (in UK) and goes up in other countries like Greece (we are waiting for a price close to $650).
If some people in US are angry when they see 25% discounts for students, just imagine how we feel all these years when we see the price differences between US and Europe.

I don't see how others are finding the academic purchase price of the 2215 at $299. Was it that price on Thursday 6/26 only?
I signed up today for the HP Academic Purchase Program as a teacher (which I am). When signed in under that program, the APP price for the 2215 is $359.99. (Today is Sunday, 6/29).
I tried the link given in this post, but it didn't work.
Could it be that the author was talking about another kind of student discount, not the Academic Purchase Program? Or do you need a special kind of coupon code? Or is that price already gone?
Actually, buying it at the price of $359.99 would not be the lowest price I could get it at. Although free shipping, they would charge me California sales tax of about $30, making the total around $390.
Harmony Computers is also selling it at $359.99, with $14.95 "shipping". (Quotes intentional. I doubt it would really cost them $15 to ship such a small light device, ground shipping.) But, no CA sales tax. So the total around $375, $15 less than through the academic program at HP. (By the way, anyone could purchase through Harmony, don't have to be a student or teacher.)
(Of course, with the state of California being in such a dire financial situation (including the financing of schools), perhaps I should be a good guy and pay the sales tax!)
But anyhow, the teacher/student discount at $360 is not really such a good deal, since (at least one) reseller has it at that price, and prices will probably continue to go down, if one is willing to wait.
But---if there's something I missed--regarding getting it at that $299 price--please let us know!

you need to go through the higher ed store, as a student or teacher, then go by state and choose a contract (the national contract should give you the $293, if your institution qualifies for others you may get a better price). Again, see my above post with link to the AnandTech thread (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=1080783&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=). The price, as far as i know, only applies to higher ed students and employees, so if you're a high school or elementary school teacher you may be SOL.
I got the $267 price for my university; i called HP today and they said they should be confirming and shipping my order today or tomorrow - nothing about a price mistake or anything... ::crosses fingers::
Anyone ordered anything extra with that, just curious? I didn't know if the 3-yr extended warranty is a good deal or not. As well the the extra batt and other accessories also seemed like decent prices...

the latest: Now it seems that they've taken down the $267 dealie (at least from my school's contract) but the $293 shoulc still be good, and now applies to k-12 as well!
anwyays, i got in on the $267 and i should be getting mine in 3 business days. ohhhh yeah.
Turns out the extended warranty item is "out of stock" thus holding up the whole order since last Friday. I'd called Wed to find out what's what, and the very nice woman split out the warranty to a separate order so she could overnight the base order to me. Came home today (Thurs), the boxes are already sitting out front, excellent :)
I was lucky to snag the $267 too. BTW is this extended warranty just your standard CarePAQ or is it something specific to HP's Higher Education store?

They were out of warranties???
^ Your guess is as good as mine :) They must have to ration it or something...
I know people like Best Buy warranty instead (which you supposedly can buy for devices purchased outside the store), and I still remember the old complaints about CarePAQ being next to useless, but oh well...

I ordered one at 264 and one at 293. Not knowing which discount I will get. But will find out tommorrow. I wonder does this include the cradle? I ordered in such a hurry I forgot if it included it.
Thanks,

I haven't ordered one myself, but previous discussions seemed to indicate it did include a cradle (though it preportedly gave you the opportunity to order an additional one).

do the iPAQ h1945 or the iPAQ 2215 come with PPC 2003?
I can't believe everyone reading this thread, and posting after this post, let it go with no remarks.
:D  :silly:  0X :drinking:  :splat:

yep! pretty messed up, my friend got his 2210 at like $230 through edu. program. I went to buy mine... 354!!! the difference in one week at HP!!!
my likeness to HP is like 1% now, what sucks for them is that they were fixing sell me something and id quit negatively advertising for them, but they sorta blew it! oh and now warranties are 'out of stock'?
they suck!!!!!!!!!!!
