I was planning to buy the new HP5550, but have decided to wait. I want to see what other devices HP plans to release in the near future. My HP5455 works well for me right now, and I can upgrade to 2003 (keep in mind some APPS will not work right away). Also I read that Microsoft will be releasing PPC 2004 sometime next Spring???????????????????????? Is this true???????? If so I want be upgrading to 2003, if another upgrade is coming a few months from now.
The last time I jumped the gun and bought the HP5455, but should've waited. It had all kinds of problems, before I finally found one that worked (had to replace it four times).

I am with you. I was all set on buying the h5455 when they announced PPC 2003. I am glad that I waited.
h2215 sounds like a strong contender since I don't really care for the biometric reader. But in the end, I still think I want an integrated Wi-Fi. I am hoping that h5555 will have worked out the kinks in Wi-Fi and all the problems you read about.
And then, I am still wondering if HP plans on a product that has the integrated Wi-Fi and BT, without the biometrics, AND a Compact Flash slot. If so, I think that's worth waiting for!
But then if I keep waiting forever, I may never actually buy anything ever...

I have found (refer to below) that it is best to hold out a few months. Back in the day it was always waiting on the report of dust under the screen, today one must worry about battery readings, protocol stacks, etc. I'll wait for some of the long run user feedback, something like a WiFi stack could really irritate me.

I think you've got the right idea. If you already own a 5450 and have alot of money than you could go upgrade to the 5550 series (more power to you if you do). But if you don't then I'd say just get the upgrade to 2003 mobile for your 5455. It's still a very good piece of equipment and with 48mb of rom it possibly could be upgraded again next year.
Regarding "Magneto" (ppc 2004) I've read the online press state that it's expecting it "sometime" in 2004 which could mean the difference between May and December. I read someguy on a newsgroup claim that it will be due first quarter 2004 but I haven't heard this from the online press (if someone can confirm first quarter please list a link to the info).
But to answer your question, yeah I'm planning on getting the 5550. I've read up on it alot and I think it will do what I want. HP Canada's 30 day trial period is a sweet deal so I'm going to purchase it and if I don't like it (which I doubt will happen) I'll wait for the Axim X7. I'm going to do this as I don't have a pocket pc at all right now but if I had your 5450 I'd just upgrade it to 2003.

This is a tough question. I have a 5455, and I am thinking about upgrading to the 5555. I will wait several months before I do upgrade if at all.
I love my 5455, it's my first PPC. I waited almost 2.5 years, continually reading about PPC, until I purchased mine. I purchased it in Jan 2003.
I have decided to upgrade to WM2003. It's not that expensive(relative, I guess, only $30) I will then re-evaluate on the 5555, who knows what is going to be out?

I just went from intending to buy to bought. I just hope the 5550 lives up to it's price tag :!:

I just have to buy the new stuff when it comes out. Even if I upgrade my 5455 I'll probably get the 5555. I can't help it.
