I'm new to the PPC world and I'm considering getting one for work. My company uses T-mobile as its standard voice service.

Question about the Pocket PC: can I use it to make audio recordings of interviews, memos, etc.? If so, what are the storage size limitations?

Thanks!

Yes you can use it to make make audio recordings. The file size or storage capacity is different in most PPCs. But you can always purchase more memory in the form of Compact Flash cards, or SD. Currently SD only goes up to 512mb...and we should see a 1gb some time soon. The CF cards are cheaper and there are some with much more capacity (not to mention that there also exist some mini-hard drives).

What sort of software is provided to help with audio recordings? And how much time does 512 mb of audio recording translate into?

I haven't been able to find anything on the web about Pocket PC's audio recording capabilities -- if anyone could point me to an article or a review, that would be great.

Most PPCs come with an integrated mic as you know and the software to record comes with the PPCs. There are some that have better abilities than others, all you have to do is look around some PPC sites and look for reviews. You might want to look at the higher end models for the ones with most options. I am not sure if there is any other software for these tasks out there. But I am guessing a simple visit to Handango might help. About the amount of recording time available in a 512 mb .... im not sure. I never used my PPC for long recordings... only minor notes to myself "Have _______ homework" "Have to buy ____ at store", and so forth. :)

Enderet - Thanks again. As you said, a quick visit to Handango answered a few of my questions -- Pro Tone (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&jid=BFFX9CBX73F24C86B28DE1CAA941EA99&order=desc&productId=44172&optionId=1_2_2&productType=2&catalog=30&txtSearch=audio+recording&posit=0&sortBy=rating&sectionId=0&platformId=2) in particular looks like a good app.

Check out NoteM (http://www.geocities.com/zavorine/wince/mp3.htm) for recording in 16kbps MP3 files - you can record for a LONG time with this software, and even turn off the screen while you record.

This is a realy good piece of sotware. And it is also free. I use this to recored vaious things. I used it to reocord a political debate I was at, use it for aquick voice note, to archive various things. I use it ever week to record my Dd's sermons at church. I just start it recording, turn the screen off, put is in the case and set it on the floor. I make a prety god recording too. Be fore you go out and buy a recording software try NoteM and support freeware.

If you want something for professional uses, you might want to check out the PocketRekorder (http://www.pocketrekorder.com/flash/englisch.html).
