OK, so Jason wasn't completely accurate in his <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=125067">kickoff post</a> -- he thought we wouldn't have 8 hours of news if we posted it every 33 minutes. He was wrong -- we have had <b>24</b> freakin' hours of news. I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted, and so is Jason as well as the rest of the team. We're going to return to a slightly slower schedule, so that neither you, our dear readers, nor us, the editors, go insane. :)<br /><br />There <b>is</b> one hanging matter... and that's Jason's iPAQ 2215 review. He promises it's going to be the greatest review ever (apparently, it's already about 300K of HTML), and he promises not to sleep until it's done. Anyone want to place bets on when it'll be up? I can just picture it now... Jason working through the night:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.pantheon.org/articles/s/sisyphus.html"><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20030623-Jason-sisyphus.gif" /></a><br /><br />In the meantime, we hope you enjoyed the wild ride, and hopefully, we'll be able to ride the Pocket PC 2003 wave to better handheld computing! Rumors are already starting to surface about the <i>next</i> OS... but we'll leave that for <i>another</i> time.

I'm sorry, I caved at ~3AM and fell asleep.

But I was planning on pulling an all nighter. Now I'm glad I didn't, considering you guys pulled off 24 hours of steady posts.

Maybe this could be the theme for next season's 24 (http://www.fox.com/24/).

Uhhh...
Rumors are already starting to surface about the next OS... but we'll leave that for another time.
Does this mean more Micros :robot: ft NDAs (couldn't resist that funny emoticon! I'm not an MS hater)? Just wondering. Is everyone going to be under an NDA again? Or are we going to hear more rumors? I missed the rumors... Oh well. But what sort of rumors? Remember, this isn't CNet, this is PPCTHOUGHTS, so yeah.

Anyways, You guys are awesome, though. I saw a 2215 iPAQ (It's small!) today at CompUSA, along with a PPC 2003 version of Toshiba's 755. I was like "hmmm... I didn't know that this had the new version of PPC" because you didn't post about that until later today! Anyways, yeah. I also met this one guy at CompUSA that is part of www.tcpocketpc.org, which happens to be down right now... Today was a great PPC day for me, as well as everyone else!

Yes, excellent work, gang! I would also like to state for the record that the mobile version of the site kicks much butt! It was the only way I was able to access the site for most of today and it was truly a pleasure to use. (Though I wish it were simpler to open links in a new window so I don't have to tap the back button so much to get back to the new posts.) I only hope that page load times in the new Pocket IE are significantly faster than in 2002. As nice as the mobile pages are, it's still kinda tedious waiting for a page to load completely.

Anyway, you folks are the greatest! Keep up the excellent work!

As long as I'm a Microsoft MVP, I'll be under an NDA. My NDA specifies that if another site posts news, I can link to that site, but I can't "break" the news. That's the tradeoff I have to made for being on the "inside" a little and getting to add my voice to the shape of the next OS. I think it's worth it.

Bah. I was in a bad mood that day. I still appreciate what you all have done for us viewers, and along side that, even the Palm partiality portion of this site is far outweighed by the service of you and the crew.

On a sidenote, I thought you were

I think it would be worth it, too. Besides what you mentioned, you get to go on Microsoft sponsored (and paid for) trips, get free devices, etc.

Maybe I should post in the Microsoft newsgroups and see if I can be an MVP, too. Would adding "Microsoft MVP Wannabe" to my signature here help?

For shame guys...in all the hustle and bustle you didn't post anything about the new PowerMac G5's. ;) J/K

Yeah, that sounds like a good deal, Jason. I thought the NDA meant that you can't say anything (or link to anything) about the new OS, even if everything that you said (or linked to) was not told to you by MS or whoever made you sign the NDA. The NDA thing sounds like a good deal, as long as you can still link to other news sites. Also, is everyone on PPCThoughts under the NDA, or is like one person in the dark or do you guys just all get jealous of each other, so everyone on the team wants to know what's going on, but it's a "If I told you, I'd have to kill you (or you can find out yourself if you sign this NDA)" sort of thing, then do you just not tell them or do they want to know so badly that they sign the NDA as well ("they" and "them" meaning everyone else who is a member of the PPCThoughts staff or whatever)?

I don't even know if that was a question or not, so you don't have to read it. What I really meant to ask is: is everyone on the PPCThoughts team is under the NDA?
I think I asked that question last time the topic came up... But yeah.

I kinda want to be a Microsoft MVP now, too! I love free stuff!

No. The MVPs are, which is everyone on the news team except Crystal and myself. This means, of course, that the two of us don't hear much of anything. We literally knew nothing about Pocket PC 2003 until Sunday.

Also, the site is under the NDA, so if we discovered something outside of the context of a published article, none of us, including Crystal and I, could publish it.

That answered my question very well. That's too bad that the whole site is under an NDA, but it's even worse for you guys because you didn't know anything and you couldn't tell anyone if you did! Oh well. Actually, I'm kind of glad that PPCThoughts has grown up a little... You guys (esp. Jason) deserve credibility, if that's what this NDA helps you guys to get.

Keep the thoughts (and news, too, I guess) coming!

It might go farther than that, though. I sent Jason some news about items I put up at pocketnow (http://pocketnow.com/index.php?t=news&a=portal_browse&d=2003-06-15) on June 21, including links to HP's Web site showing their press release and people buying iPAQ 2215s at Fry's Electronics. Jason didn't publish that, saying that he wanted to respect the NDA.

I can certainly understand not linking to HP's site directly, because that could be viewed as insider information, but I thought he might have been able to link to pocketnow. The press release link was already posted there, so I thought it would be fair game.

It's not a big deal, but it made me wonder how far the NDA really went.

Realize, first, that we're under multiple NDAs: both a Microsoft one, and an HP one. I don't know the precise details, but I'd assume they're not identical. In general, I avoid posting any such things until Jason makes a decision as to whether it's OK.

I seem to remember Jason asking us months back what we thought of him or the site going under NDA. As I recall most of us said "Do what you think is right", as well as "Yes, that sounds good".

Personally I sleep sounder at night knowing that Jason, Ed and the team are involved in the new builds of the OS's. (No, really  )

I think it is good to have the 'real' inside track. Rumours are one thing, but we want the facts (Mam).

The bulk of the reason is that I wanted my readers to read my review first. That's probalby selfish of me, but if drove me INSANE that I signed an NDA with HP in order to get a review device, and Joe Blow on the street could go out and buy a 2215 before I was allowed to publish my review. That just sucked, so I "held the line". Now that you're writing for pocketnow, you have to understand that every site is different, and we all do things differently.

Yeah, I can imagine that would get you a bit upset. :frusty:

As for being selfish, don't worry about it; it's your site, you're entitled. :-)

Now that you're writing for pocketnow, you have to understand that every site is different, and we all do things differently.
Hey, I knew every site was different just from reading the various sites. ;-) But your point is valid -- Pocket PC Thoughts, pocketnow, Brighthand, Pocket PC Passion and Dave's iPAQ, for example, all have different coverages and personalities.
